Just a quick tour. No cleaning up or styling. This is how it is right here and right now.
This is the spot in our caravan where I have been checking my emails and am about to sit down and write this blog. We have wireless internet so a few of us can be online at once which is great.
That bit of white tape on the far left is double sided velcro tape. Farmer Bren is obsessed with it. Everything is tidied and rolled and secured with the stuff.
Straight in front of me is the map of Australia with our route so far drawn up the middle. We've come a long way in five weeks. Is that Miss Jazzy eating Vegemite crackers outside the door? Why I think it is.
And there is Miss Indi. At last count she had 57 mosquito bites covering her and is incredible itchy. Hello Indi!!
There's my bunch of flower squares sitting waiting for me on the table. It's too hot here to think of making woolly clothing so I'm making granny squares instead.
The washing line. How cute is the caravan peg bag Miss Michelle made for me! Thanks for making it and sending it to me Michelle! Doing the laundry is so much more fun now.
Getting mail on the road has been such a thrill.
A quick peek inside her van and look who we've found. Miss Pepper and her friend Christian. The truth is I heard these guys long before I saw them. They are a noisy bunch.
Twenty minutes after I wrote this, I was about to press publish, when I looked out the window and saw this. The start of a neighbourhood game of hide and seek.
Ready or not here I come...
Ok, time to put the barbecue on now. Tofu and salad wraps for dinner here. Indi and I have a date to play bingo at the bar later on.
I hope your week has started happily.
See ya!
Hi Darlingheart ... your stories get better and better ... written so magically, so heartfelt in so many ways, Thank YOU!
ReplyDeleteBut Oh my heart's breaking for those with the itchy bites.
Reminded me of the cure, initially for sand flies, midgies!
It's made with a combination of Dettol, Eucaplytus, Baby Oil, Metho or when all else fails use Vicks Vaporub to ward off the little blighters!
I'm sure Google will have quantities etc.
Thinking of you all every day, keep on keeping on Darlings. ♥♥♥♥♥
Loving the peg bag. Hope the rest of your week is as relaxed as it all looks to be in your post.
ReplyDeleteLove it! What a fun evening! Bring on summer down here in Melbourne - lots of rain today! I reckon it would be delightful to bump into you in a caravan park and share a beverage! xx Sending love xx
ReplyDeleteAhhh...afternoon cocktails...I was doing that a few months ago in far north QLD. Looking at your lovely, bright, sunny pics takes me away for just a few minutes, from, grey, cold Melbourne...:)
ReplyDeleteSonia xx
Gorgeous post. And your snaps always make your caravan look so spacious.
ReplyDeleteEverything (apart for the mozzie bites) sounds lovely. And that recorded road trip looks impressive already.

ReplyDeleteOn such a sad day, this post made me feel safe and happy. Oh, to be bare legged, eating vegemite crackers and covered in mosquito bites. That's the life! Enjoy your hide and seek guys. :)
ReplyDeleteAs someone very sweetly once commented on my blog -
ReplyDelete'You are in serious danger of giving those children an idyllic childhood that they will spend the rest of their lives trying to replicate. Don't say you haven't been warned.'
Love that you are including us in your journey.
the picture of Miss Pepper and her friend is pure gold.

Now THAT is living. You guys are going to remember these happy times forever. Loving the updates and tales of caravan park life.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness - so much fun in the top end! You won't want to come home!
ReplyDeleteI loved feeding the moonfish bread at dusk on the jetty in Darwin. they're so huge. Love Darwin! didn't find too many caravan parks we liked there though - all on top of each other and the only spot we had anything stolen on our whole trip around Australia. Hope you found a good one.
ReplyDeleteAll sounds wonderful Kate. Love the peg bag - gorgeous! And your map trail is so impressive - you've gone such a long way already. Really enjoying reading, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteoh kate , this post made my heart go skippidy skip with pure joy and excitement. it looks like you are all having such a relaxing happy time. i'm glad your peg bag is earning it's keep. thanks for the shout out. i would love to hear your wi fi arrangement if you have time to flick me an email. like you we will be using a macbook and an ipad. i will go with a telstra wi fi modem but not sure what to do about routing the signal to the ipad. did you buy the apple portable device? it's all on the shopping list for this week but i thought you might have some helpful advice. ♥ m
ReplyDeleteYou guys are the coolest Kate. I SO love reading your posts about life on the road. Please make your story into a book, I have no doubt it would sell. You have an incredible knack of making your readers feel involved. Lovely pics :o)
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog, and have been following it for the past few months, keep it up, I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove Roz x
Bren is right - double sided velcro is the best. I have rolls of it stashed everywhere just in case I need some.
ReplyDeletewhat i love... your caravan curtains and the tea towel on your little clothes line. My advice for mossie bites... paw paw ointment or straight pure lavender oil, both from chemist. you've covered a great distance. isn't it a priviledge to be able to travel our vast land so freely. safe and happy travels. Jane x
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have cut australia in half -divide and conquer!
ReplyDeleteYou guys look like you are having hte best time!! Love a little caravan holiday.. they are just too much fun!!!
ReplyDeleteloving your trip Kate. Makes me a little green ... or is that just blue from the cold here in melb!

ReplyDeletedid you want me to send you something to help the itching? let me know, probably difficult for you to get a hold of too many things there.
hugs to you all ♥
Hello,
ReplyDeleteWe are Glenlyon people who are currently spending 12 months in Darwin. If you would like to know about interesting things to do / places to eat - let me know your email. Cheers, Alyssa.
And there you were worrying that the kids wouldn't make friends! They look like they are having a brilliant time...and you are sounding very relaxed and settled :)
ReplyDeleteYour holiday pics are so much fun Kate...It looks so warm there...We leave in 3 days for a short break...I think your holiday has finally made my mind up...we pack our bags and head for the sunny coast...2 weeks of sun surf and hmmmm...shopping...oh how I miss the "big" shops...I am looking forward to mega thrift stores...and crafty goodness...
ReplyDeleteMight have some holiday pics to share too...
I so want to join you. Looks like you are having s great time.
ReplyDeleteHI Kate, just discovered your blog via Amanda Brooke´s blog. Lovely holiday you´re having! Just love your spare tyre cover, wonderful colours...Enjoy yourselves
ReplyDeleteHi Kate,
ReplyDeleteI have been reading your blog for a couple of months now and have been thinking of you one this journey, my family did a similar thing when my brother and I were still at school, was heaps of fun!! I was just thinking it was quite uncanny that some of our friends from here have been doing a similar thing (except they have just been through WA) and they are also in Darwin at the same time your family is. What was more uncanny is there they are in your last photo...the man with the young girl on his knee...how bizarre!!! Hope you are having a lovely time away....Jess
I love your updates, but I also love the vicarious updates of my friend Erica's children (Chloe in the black leggings, and Taj in the darker blue shirt)! If you meet Erica or her husband Mitch, please say hi for me! We miss them so much!
ReplyDeleteCan you see why we happily lived in Darwin for over 6 years, it's fantastic!! We felt like were on holidays the whole time, well me, housewife & all, husband, not so much, he kept going to war.
ReplyDeleteIf you need a doctor, we used to go to this crazy witch doctor in Nightcliff, imagine barefoot, in kaftans, he would tell my children he was going to eat them (thank goodness they don't freak out easily) & hell, he bulk billed, this is unheard of in the NT!!
Promise me you'll go to Parap Markets on Saturday, then Nightcliff Markets on Sunday, they are fantastic & cheap, great food/ organic produce, you'll feel right at home. Plus best smoothies & Thai Beef Salad EVER. Mindil Beach Markets on Thursday & Sunday nights are just for tourists. Filled with made-in-Bali crap, boring.
So missing my wonderful life up there, swimming all year round & sunshine, ahhh, so glad we lapped it up while we were there - best place ever to raise a large family. Try to take a day trip to Mandorah (by boat, don't drive) & an East Point sunset. Lots of love, have a blast, love Posie
We lived in caravan parks every year for a week or two as we made our way to Far North Queensland from either the South Coast of NSW or from Alice Springs, NT. It was a good life. Simple. Nourishing. Social. Peaceful. Easy. Good. x
ReplyDeleteharikasınız ..çok güzel..bende sizinle Austuralyayı geziyorum ..
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this - just gorgeous Kate :)
ReplyDeleteReally blown away by the map though! I knew you'd gone that far but I guess seeing it laid out like that is another thing - WOW! I'm so happy for you guys. Thanks for my daily smile :) Kx
Ahhh ... the memories. We lived in a caravan for quite some time when we first arrived in Darwin. That was during the wet season though... not so nice as this time of year.
