A brown leather, slightly wobbly, discarded, foot stool.
Sitting hiding underneath the table at the back of the junk shop.
I visited that stool about five times over the course of the week.
It wasn't the price that made me wonder, it was the clutter.
Was it fair to introduce more stuff to our house when we were trying to have less?
Was a foot stool a necessity, or a comfort, or an excuse for more crochet?
But I was in love.
There was no denying it.
And the little foot stool came home with me.
And I pulled out my basket of colours and crocheted.
I crocheted one big granny square for the front, a granny without the increase for the sides and a granny with a decrease for the bottom.
And my farmer boy got some tools from the shed and steadied the legs.
And I watched the space change when I introduced the newly grannied foot stool.
It somehow makes everything look cozy.
Not at all like more clutter.
And my heart is happy when I watch my farmer boy sit back and put his feet up.
The little foot stool and us, we were meant to be.
I'm on the hunt for another little stool now.
I need to put my feet up too, you know?
You know.
Have a happy weekend you guys. xx
Lovely!! Nothing like a colorful granny square to spruce up a old stool! <3
ReplyDeleteYes, I do know! I'll be on the lookout for a footstool in my travels now! Lovely job and thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThat is so colourful.....I love it. Well done for seeing past the clutter and inspiring new life x
ReplyDeleteI have a Pinterest board devoted just to crochet stools...and one day very soon I shall make one. Yours is fab. And I do know.
ReplyDeleteWho woulda thunk a Granny Stool could be so cool. There's one waiting, waiting waiting in the junk room here. Looking seriously unloved. I keep muttering promises...
ReplyDeleteyour crochet prowess. it knows no bounds!
ReplyDeleteSo worth it Kate - looks fantastic. I had big plans for a similar project. sitting unfinished in knitting bag...might drag it out and see if I can't get it finished!
ReplyDelete(oh and hello! Sorry I've been a stranger for so long. Missed you!)
yep....i know.
ReplyDeletexx
A 'he' and 'she' foot stool? Side by side? How sweet would that be!
ReplyDeleteYour little crochet covered foot stool is very cute!
My nana used to have a mustard vinyl covered foot stool that was known as 'The Poufe'. It was used until it was virtually falling apart :)
You are so clever. How cute is that!
ReplyDeleteI love it! What a fab job you have done, bring this lovely wee stool back to life.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend - with your feet up!!
Leah
xx
a fantastic tale and wonderful photos of a much loved little stepstool <3!!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great idea. :)
ReplyDeleteReally cool, have an old chair waiting for a crochet seat cover here.
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect Kate! X
ReplyDeleteLove it Kate! Def not cluttery :)
ReplyDeleteThat's it.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting someone to teach me how to crochet.
Its gorgeous! Well done!!
ReplyDeleteHi, love the foot stool! Not at all related to this post...but where do you buy your vintage sheets? I ordered some more than a year ago and I'm sure the recommendation came from your blog. I can find the post about it though. would love your help. Thanks, Lisa
ReplyDeleteI love the crochet, but that gorgeous wabi-sabi look leather is great too in the pictures, a win-win, even when the cover is in the wash you have something to enhance your home. Gorgeous Kate :D
ReplyDeleteYou're so good at making ordinary things special..that's just one of the reasons I love you :)
ReplyDeleteOnly you could see the potential in that little stool!?! I hope you appreciate what a special farm boy you have - my boy would have said "You can leave that one at grandma's house!!!" I still have a completed rag rug that he doesn't want in the house :(
ReplyDeletebeautiful and of course you should have one too. Only fair!
ReplyDeleteit's absolutely fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYou totally need one too, after all you don't want the other one to get lonely.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous work as always Kate xo
LOve it! nothing better than putting your feet up at the end of a long day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous find!
ReplyDeleteAnd now even more amazing with its crochet cosy!
Lovely idea.
Enjoy your weekend.
Xx
Hope you find another soon!
I absolutely love it ..... I can't resist a junk shop buy either! You've done a lovely job! I've just bought a really boring pine table chair and I'm hoping to give that a makeover...so it can be a pretty desk chair for one of the girl's bedrooms, just have to find the time to start!
ReplyDeleteMuch more satisfaction than going out and buying a new piece of furniture with no character!
Well done,
Fleur xx
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm always on the look out for these kinds of things and never get lucky! It's gorgeous, I love the granny colors! Have a great weekend! :)
ReplyDeletewe have a little leather footstool in the bathroom to sit on when you are chatting to the little in the bath. Mine if just plain brown leather. Yours so very lovely.
ReplyDeleteI have a thing for these footstools! I have a green one very similar and I can't believe how many uses it has! Mine is nowhere near as groovy as yours!
ReplyDeleteA good footstool deserves a mate!
ReplyDeleteI can absolutely see why you would have fallen in love with the little footstool and you've made it even more love-worthy with your great crochet style!
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping you get yourself a matching stool! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMakes me happy just looking at this wonderful piece of totally not junk! Yah to good and happy things. I hope you find your own little stool soon... though I wonder if you'll have to make 3 mini size ones as well.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! T'was meant to be.
ReplyDeleteI'm making mine now. Yours convinced me that yes! It was indeed a great idea to crochet a new cover for the little one. I was lucky - when I found my stool there was another with the leg broken (easily fixed though), which the lovely lady gave to me for free! So I got 2 little stools for $10, couldn't have been happier! The other one I covered in patchwork, so I'm doing similar colours to match that.
ReplyDeleteGreat job Kate!
Rach x
Such a great idea...I love a touch of granny here and there :)
ReplyDeleteit is definitely not clutter when it is so beautiful and useful! wishing you good luck in finding another one x
ReplyDeleteYou are a clever lady, it looks nice and comfy now. I hope you had a happy weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteI thought it was such a lovely little stool before you changed it and afterwards its so beautiful. You are extremely clever. I hope you find one for you. I cannot wait to see your find.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that little stool ever dreamed of being quite so famous!!!What an adventure he is having! It's abit like the "Stool Oscars"! Ann
ReplyDeleteAfter managing my very first and very wonky granny square last night in front of the telly I then read this post and saw your very gorgeous and neat crochet and your gorgeous stool and I realised what a lot of crochet practice I have to do! Good luck finding another little stool for your just as deserving feet to rest on.
ReplyDeleteWell done!! It looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteCute :-)
ReplyDeleteThis stool cover is just so groovy. We have a rather hideous faux leather ottoman that is in desperate need of some loving..a granny cover would be perfect!
ReplyDeletex
LOve it Kate!!
ReplyDeleteI came through to the comments thinking 'just what do 49 people have to say about a footstool' and look, look up there... the answer is lots.
ReplyDeleteI know it's a bit mean to say this, Kate, but I'm gonna... I preferred the stool without the cover. It's pretty and cute with the cover, but I LOVED it without the cover. Sorry. x
Again, you make me smile from ear to ear. Thank you. I LOVE the stool!
ReplyDeletex
Your stool looks so happy in its new clothing. It creates such a happy, cosy feeling in me. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour stool reminds me of one my mother covered. She used homespun wool from a brown sheep and an intricate but strong knitting stitch. The stool was used by everybody. I must say yours is a lot happier to look at though. Cherrie
ReplyDeleteSo bright and cheerful. Love it! I think nothing brightens up a room like the look of crochet. Though I'm not clever enough to attempt it myself for now, I love to pick up others efforts at the op shops. You will never see my lounge without a bit of crochet draped over it.
ReplyDeleteYou never cease to amaze me with what you do to your things. This is one of my favourite things about you and I mentioned you in my recent liebster post for this reason, hope you don't mind. I'm not stalking, promise :-)
