Let's get knitting giveaway! x

It's probably not very cool to admit this, but I have a little bit of an addiction to craft books. I love looking at their gorgeously styled pictures of crafty projects knowing that the instructions for the making are there should I feel the need.

And possibly even uncooler than that addiction, is the hope I've always had that someone sometime would send me craft books to read and review on my blog.

Uncool-er-ama right!?
But then one day it happened.

Open Road Media released a whole lot of craft books as ebooks and thought we (you and I) might be interested in this new way of reading and following patterns.

Their press release says this; At Open Road Media, we’re working around the movement that increasing numbers of knitters want to be able to read patterns and instructions on their ereaders, tablets, and smartphones—especially those who knit during their commutes or who carry their knitting projects with them, and don’t want to have to use knitting needles to hold their page in a print book while they’re knitting on the go.  For those just learning to knit, having knitting ebooks on their gadget of choice helps them use their idle time to learn more about knitting!

Personally I love the idea of having a book on my phone, in my basket. In the past I've always shlepped bits of paper with scribbled pattern details on them. Or I've taken photos of my patterns out of books so that I'll have the details with me where ever I am. Carting a big pattern book around in my basket just does not work for me. Too bulky. So an ebook is the perfect solution. Yay!

Anyway, as I was saying, my crafty book dreams came true and Open Road Media sent me three knitting ebooks to read, be inspired by and knit from. Thanks ORM. And they are offering two of you guys one each too. Cool hey.

Choose from;

Knitting 24/7 by Veronik Avery.
A book of stylish knits with uncomplicated patterns designed for knitters on-the-go who have five minutes here or ten minutes there to knit.
(So many cute patterns I don't know where to start).

Knitted Socks East and West by Judy Sumner
Glorious knitted sock patterns.
(I am in love with this book and inspired to knit socks like never before).

Viva Poncho by Christina Stork and Leslie Barbazette
A book of versatile, comfortable, stylish patterns for ponchos for all seasons
(You know I am all about bringing the poncho back).

Knitting For Baby by Kristin Nicholis
Tapping into our innate desire to knit for babies, with the first patterns in the book teaching simple stitches and the fundamentals of knitting, and patterns that increase in complexity as knitters work through the book.
(Knitting teeny, tiny, quick things is such a great way to learn I think).

Knits Men Want by Bruce Weinstein
Far too many women spend their time, energy, and resources knitting things for men that men don’t want to wear.  Author Bruce Weinstein offers humorous rules to create knits men want
(I so should have chosen this one because my farmer boy is HASSLING me to knit for him).

Knit 2 Together by Tracey Ullman and Mel Clark
HBO comedian Tracey Ullman teamed up with a Los Angeles yarn store owner to write this lively knitting book
(No relation).

OK, so let's have ourselves a little giveaway.
Let me know in the comments which of the Ebooks you would like to win and why.
Make sure you include a way for me to contact you.
And let's get click clacking!

See ya later knitting potata.

  1. oh my I'm in this give away for sure...
I'd like the Knitting 24/7 book.
I've not used an ebook for knitting but I can really see the benefits when I'm out and about, one less thing to lug around with me.

  3. wow exciting! I'm torn between knitting 24/7 and knits men want although I think that because of the fequency with which I pick up sticks I should just choose 24/7 something for me! Thanks Kate.

  4. Lucky you! If I was fortunate enough to win, I'd opt for Viva Poncho. A girl can't have too many cardis, throws, ponchos...

  5. I'm with you - its socks all the way. Knitted Socks East and West. I read the Tracy Ullman one a few years ago and I loved all her little stories about being a knitter.

  6. Oh my goodness! I've wanted to start learning how to Knit socks this year so Knitted Socks East and West would be a good choice. Also the Knitting 24/7 sounds like a book I could handle as I'm still in the beginning stage of knitting.

  7. I think that Knitting 24/7 would be great for me as all the monsters do different activities and I am constantly picking up and putting down whatever project I'm working on at the time to take, pick up or wait.

  8. I would love to own Knitting 24/7! I borrowed it from the library once and fell in love with it - I love the bits where she describes where to squeeze some knitting in - like before a meeting. Thanks for the opportunity - what a neat giveaway! claude.and.wilbur@gmail.com

  11. Another giveaway - Kate, you're the best! I'd love "Knits Men Want" as my poor husband is usually neglected on the knitting front (too many gorgeous friends having scrumptious newborns! :-)

  12. Ahh hello, a book about Ponchos - count me in for that book! Poncho's are the in thing now, (I have decided) - way better than socks!
And one question, how do you scribble notes on the pattern if it is an e-book? I'm always scribbling in the margins of the patterns, I'd be interested to see how I'd go with an e-book!

    1. Oh that is such a great question.
I hadn't thought of it but I am a pattern scribbler too.

  16. I think the knitting 24/7 or the knits men want would be the ones that I would choose. How lovely to be sent books to review. I too have an unhealthy collection of books that even if I lived till I was 100 years old I wouldn't have enough time to make even half of the things!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. 5 mins here or 10 mins there to knit? Oh yes, that sounds just about right for me at the moment! Count me in for the 24/7 knitting one. :)

  18. Oh Kate, what a neat group of books from which to choose !~! Socks and Babies are the two that interest me the most so I'd have to let you choose from there.

Thanks for your blog, it's fun, informative and very colorful.

  20. How exciting! Lucky you :-)
I would love the socks or ponchos or babies one please.
I just purchased the 24/7 one in hard back - it's lovely!
Love the idea of a gadget friendly ebook - do hope there's an option to add notes like 'you are up to here' and 'get a coffee and your glasses for this bit' though!

ps I take photos with my phone of patterns too!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Knitting 24/7 looks like I would find projects in this, it's a pretty tough choice though. Have an embarrassingly large craft book stash myself.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm a bit torn between two of these books but as I am in a poncho mood of late, the poncho ebook it is! Thanks for the chance.

  23. I've used several of Judy Sumner's patterns. My granddaughters all loved her little shells socks. Well written and lovely product. Put your copy under lock and key. There will be no more. Judy unfortunately died of pancreatic cancer some time in the lsat 12-18 months.

  27. Most definitely Viva Poncho for me please....I live on the island of Crete, so have great difficulty viewing and buying good, fashionable books and patterns.....also, ponchos are the way to go here as it doesn't get cold enough for 'big' coats, we tend to layer....thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh, Knitting 24/7 for sure! The front cover alone has to be a good indicator of what's waiting inside, surely?!

  32. I too am a craft book addict....I automatically go the craft section of the library and bookshops....I've read all the knitting and crochet books in the library and have now started re-borrowing them.

I would love a chance to win the knit 24/7 book please, although the east west socks one looks good too! Thanks!

And then this give away comes along making me think along those lines even more! If I had to pick one I'd have to choose Knitted Socks East and West first!

  41. I would like to win the baby book as six months ago I had a little girl and I want to make her some winter jumpers. I have already crocheted one but fancy trying knitting again and as I am never far from my iPad an e- reader would be great. Sarah x

  46. All these books look great, but I think if I had to choose just one it would be Knitting 24/7. Veronik Avery always has such beautiful, through composed designs, and I often find myself knitting just a bit here and there. A book dedicated to that approach as an ebook - wow! killer combo :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I have recently taught myself to knit socks so would REALLY love the sock pattern book. I'm hoping to make lots of Christmas presents for my family so this pattern book would be brilliant to help me out with that. Thank you for such a great giveaway!

  48. Kate are any of these books coming out for real (ie. paper copies) I just can't get my head around e-books (way too much of a book worm and I have a habit of reading in the bath..)
Oh, and I think reviewing craft books on your blog is the ultimate definition of craft-cool!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wow, so many choices but I would love to win Knitting 24/7, thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I definitely agree with you. I've loved downloading patterns on my phone so I can access them easily wherever I am! I'd love Knitting 24/7. Although i love to crochet, I've fallen in love with knitting too and always alternating between the two. Knitting cute patterns on the go sounds great!

  55. I love the idea of e-books for craft. I like the idea of 'Knitting 24/7' and 'Knits Men Want'. I have a cooking book called 'Cakes men like' and that's a success, so I guess this e-book is in the same vain? And it just so happened that the other day the lad said he'd like a hand knitted cardigan for that 'country gent/ gentleman farmer' look when we move to our property and need to tidy up when we pop into town. Thanks for the tremendous offer and keep knitting.
