Ends.

In the midst of all this book writing a whole bunch of stuff happened that I never got a chance to mention here. Miss Indi vintage frocked up and graduated from primary school, Miss Jazzy finished grade three, Jo-Jo had a hairy, Miss Pepper had her last bush kinder and kinder day, there was a creative dance concert and a ballet concert and this mama who doesn't cope so well with change and time passing cried a whole lot of tears. And crocheted a whole lot of motifs.

But then this morning in our house, something huge happened. A mile stone. Something that I just had to record here.

Miss Pepper had her first ever hair cut.

One minute she was the girl with the longest plaits in the world. She was going to grow her hair for the rest of her life. And the next minute she wanted it cut. Just like that. She was sick of it hurting when I brushed it and wanted hair just like Jazzy's.

So I cut her hair.

And she loves it. She loves flipping and tossing it and she adores jumping on the trampoline with it. She is most excited to wear it out all the time.

I don't have a baby anymore. Sob.

xx

  4. Oh she's a doll. I'm putting my 2yo blossom (that has never had scissors near her mane of blond ringlets) to bed. I can't bear the thought of her growing up or a haircut. It makes my heart hurt & my chest cave...

  5. My daughter still has waist length hair now she is all grown up. But she has had it cut many times, never short though. Likewise myself, as it is still very long but it has feet cut off it when it is cut. It's nice that Pepper's hair isn't very short but chopping the ends off now and then keeps it looking neater. To most people they probably won't even notice (long hair is long, no matter what the length exactly) but to you and the person who has the inch or two snipped off, it's a big deal!

My friend with longer hair than me, used to make a grand entrance whenever she had a hair cut but in all honesty people never noticed (it was half an inch at most!) It meant a lot to her though. She had it all snipped off when she had a baby as she simply couldn't manage it long. (It used to be brushed for her - I remember brushing her hair at night clubs as she couldn't do it. Yes, she was a bit of a princess but she was lovely anyway.) No one brushed mine and my daughter has learnt how to care for hers herself too. It's pretty essential really!

  6. My grandaughter had very curly hair she could sit on...then wanted it cut for the same reason...it was hardest on her dad! Miss Pepper's hair is lovely!

  7. Such a beauty! My older two have really fine, slow growing hair, so I've only trimmed their hair a couple of times, but the baby has really thick, fast-growing hair that makes him look much older than he is. Always makes me feel so sad to cut their hair! xK

  8. Precious Kate, I went through such a time of grief when Jude was half way through prep. He is still my baby (beginning Grade 2) next year, we have cuddles, kisses and still read stories at night.... I can feel that pain in your heart from here! xx

  11. Wow, does she actually look a little older just from that hair cut? She looks so confident and ready for school. You are allowed to have a bit of a sniffle I think, I still have another year to go and I will be in the same boat. mel x

  12. Miss Pepper is just gorgeous with her new haircut. I am sure that if you take things one day at a time Kate it wont seem so bad. I can still remember my son when he was so little and now that I have new nephews and nieces to cuddle I realise that one day I might have little grandchildren to look after and it doesnt seem so bad. Isabelle is growing up way too quickly though and I would love to add a stop growing button just for a few more years but she loves life way too much for me to stop her learning and experiencing things. Your girls are all gorgeous and make you so happy and you always have lots of photos to remember all the years of them growing up too.
