If craft projects hold thoughts and feelings and memories, then this cardi is a bit here and there. It's filled with endings and new beginnings. It's filled with hopes and fears and wonderings and dreams for the future. It's full of fun school holiday days spent with family, of a zillion itchy bites and tired legs from 6.30am runs.
For the past few weeks I have carried the paper pattern in my basket at all times.
I knitted it in bed, on the couch, at the market, by the pool, at the beach and most everywhere else in between. And I marked off each row as I knitted it in green texta.
I loved this pattern and found it easy to follow and to knit, except for the beginning of the first sleeve which I had to undo once and reknit. But then the second sleeve was easy.
I tried it on Miss Pepper twice while it was still on the needles; Once for the length of the body and once for the length of the sleeves. I purposely knitted it a bit too big, so it'll fit her for longer. I'm hopeful she'll be wearing it all the way through this year and well into the next.
I'm hopeful my littlest girl will love wearing her Olinda cardi as much as I loved knitting it for her. That it'll keep her warm and snuggled up with love. I'm hopeful she'll stay girly and pretty pink for a while to come. And I'm hopeful I can get a brush through that tangled hair when it's back to school time.
What's next on the sticks? Why a dusty blue Olinda for her big sister of course.
What about you?
What are you making/baking/growing/singing/cooking...
Do tell.
xx
She looks so beautiful in it too, I bet it will be a much loved favourite for a long time x
ReplyDeleteGosh it's beautiful.......and Miss Pepper looks utterly gorgeous in it too! I so wish I could get the hang of knitting. It's just going to take a bit of time! In the meantime, i'll just drool at your beautiful creations!

My goodness!! Miss Pepper looks SO grown up! Her hair looks darker, her face less baby like & she looks so much like her biggest sister!! Wow ....
ReplyDeleteI'm crocheting a baby blanket for my cousin in laws first bub. I planted my first heirloom seeds 9 days ago & today I seen that some have sprouted - YAY!!! It's school holidays here so I've been making French toast & pancakes for breakfast- YUM! I'm sure there'll be lots of baking in the next two weeks :)
That's a pretty sweater on a pretty little girl. Lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteI am doing nothing to day, I seemed to have lost my creativity.Usually im baking, sewing , or doing a spot of crochet. If any thing is going to inspire me, is your lovely blog. You knit really cool stuff x

The cardio is stunning as is the colour. I wonder if there's an adult version? I have just finished knitting a wee cardigan for my niece (in 3 days - love!) after a challenging knit for me. Socks are in there too - one nearly done in fits and bursts since the weekend and another finished over the course of last week. I am on a roll and it is school holidays this week too.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! I found your blog through the article in Mollie Makes. Just what I've been looking for, I love to knit and just been given a sewing machine, so looking forward to make friends with it, and start making and creating. Thank you so much for all the inspiration and beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteI am currently making a top for me, then I have a little baby hoodie planned for my soon to be born niece/nephew and then I am dying to knit a pair of lace patterned socks, looking forward to the challenge.
Have you got any good recommendations for a good pattern for a beret/slouchy beanie? Turning into autumn over here in Portugal... Brrrr. :)
such a beautiful cardi !!!!

Hey Kate, I just got a bunch of knitting books out of the library and really liked one as it teaches you all the different stitches that you just do up in squares. Then I remembered that you were doing something similar so after a weekend away I came back to your blog to check what book you were using. It is the same book!!!! I love it because as I said, it teaches you the different stitches, you only have to do a square (I get bored on big projects) and they can then all be sewn together into a blanket (not that I like the sewing part). I wanted to ask you though are you using the same type of yarn for each square (ie just different colours) or are you using all different types of yarns? I'm just wondering whether all my squares will come out the same size and will fit together into a blanket. I guess I can only get knitting and see....but since you're further ahead than me I thought I'd ask how your squares were looking. Lovely cardi btw xx
ReplyDeleteIf you use the same ply (8 ply etc) or tension (stitches to the inch) it should make them roughly the same size. have fun !
DeleteI think I'm using all 8ply but as I'm mostly using wool from my scrap basket I cannot be certain. My theory is that most of the will be stretchable when sewed into place at the end. Have fun. x
DeleteIt's beautiful. I'm in awe that you can do that during the school holidays. I struggle to make a cup of tea :-)
ReplyDeleteSo so beautiful Kate! Both the cardi and Miss P.
ReplyDeleteShe is growing very fast, as ours are. Its scary!
I've been working on some black cats for halloween - only the four
as that is all the cats eyes I had!XXXJ
I love her wild messy hair <3 She looks like a little faery child.
ReplyDeleteHer jacket turned out beautifully! It's way way too hot here already for any woollies.
Both Pepper and the cardigan are beautiful. It is lovely to think of how much love goes into knitting. Carla

ReplyDeleteBeautiful sweater! I have high hopes that one day I will be able to make my daughter clothes like that. For now, I fill her belly with good stuff to eat. Muffins are always quick and easy and we normally eat one a day. Here is the latest recipe I tried - Blueberry Ricotta Muffins with a Lemon Sugar Topping. They were pretty yummy.

I love that question "What are you making/baking/growing/singing/cooking?" . In a week where I feel like I have achieved nothing (school holidays +4 kids), it helped me see that I actually have because I had done all those things, so thanks !!
ReplyDeleteI love that cardigan, Kate, such a pretty colour, it really suits lady pepper! You have inspired me to re teach myself to knit! I have bought some beautiful bluey-purpley wool to.make my gorgeous girl a new hat and scarf. Can't wait!

ReplyDeleteI wish so much I could make something like this... I would be more motivated if we lived in colder lands though, it's very pretty.
ReplyDeleteWow Kate - I checked out the pattern and I must say your cardi looks so beautiful and I much prefer it to the one I saw on the pattern. This could be down to something as simple as needle size so I'm hoping you won't mind sharing what size needles you used and also did you use circular or four-needle-knitting? I've only been knitting for about a year after a long absence but I'm loving it and I know my four year old daughter would be delighted if I undertook a similar project.
ReplyDeleteThank you SO MUCH Denise. I used size four needles. Usually with Tikki's patterns I use a 3.75 to get guage but I wanted this one to be a bit bigger. And I used circulars. I am so intimidated by 3 or 4 needle knitting...one day. I hope you do knit Olinda, it is the most gorgeous pattern. x
DeleteBeautiful cardi... Beautiful daughter.
ReplyDeleteShe is gorgeous. And the sweater...so beautiful! Love these precious photos of them both!
