Ella's skipping dress.

Not so long ago I wrote here about my passion for sewing. About how sewing just one seam can help make my world make a bit more sense.

But then just under a month ago two things happened:
  1. I discovered and fell in love with knitting.
  2. A little symbol came up on the screen of my sewing machine telling me that it needed to be serviced.
So I turned it off and walked away and knitted and didn't deal with the fact that I really had to book Nina Bernina in for a service.

The funny thing is that I didn't want to take her in for a service in the first place, because I couldn't bear to be without her for as long as it took. In actual fact it has been so much longer.

Today when I couldn't put it off any longer, I switched her on and the symbol was gone. I felt so grateful to her that she was letting me sew, that I promised to take her in for a service this week. And I will.

This skipping dress is made for a princess that lives in a patchworky castle. Check out what Andi made my Jazzy for her birthday as a swap. Isn't it the best!

This dress was made from bits of cord and vintage sheets from my stash, an op shopped zipper and bias binding and a crocheted by me motif and ric-rac. This time I stitched the Everything but the thread bit straight onto the binding.

Now I just hope it is pink enough for the princess.

Ok, now the sewing is done I can do a few rows/rounds of this before school pick up.

I hope your Monday is a funday. XX

  1. Always time for a few rounds before pick up! Amazing what you can squeeze in. Well done to Nina Bernina too. I think she deserves a little TLC though.

  10. I totally loooove the binding! I rang and booked my poor little machine for a service today. It's been making the most horrid clunking noise for the past month.

  11. I think your Bernina is a little newer than mine ;), she just slowed right down...but is happy again with her new motor! Beautiful dress, the binding is wonderful. A special touch.
That knitting is also lovely. I have stalled, trying to find a project to match my yarn.
    Too many options!

  13. Wow you are amazing, getting so many knitted objects finished so fast. Is that Eden's Adam by tikki? and the yarn so gorgeous, Noro?
I can relate to you torn between too addictive crafts. You have done another wonderful job of the dress.

  14. Love the dress and the knitting! Both princess worthy I should think. If you see a cheap sewing machine at an oppy it might be worth considering? Then you would have a back up. I have my first ever sewing machine, so when my good one is being naughty, it gets dragged out. Good for teaching on too.

    :)

  16. My goodness! You did fall in love with knitting didn't you? I've just had a look at your back posts. Your needles must have been running hot. And everything is lovely.
Clever Nina to tell you when she isn't feeling well; my machine just starts breaking thread or making funny noises.

  17. great place for the "everything" - what a way to finish off the dress. And by the way - what a tease with that wool bundle - I suppose we will have to wait until tomorrow to see what you have finished. Do you knit in your sleep, you are so speedy to finish each item :) ! ?

  20. Great dress and Nina worked for you out of fear because she has seen how much time you have been spending with THOSE needles. She was desperate! And I think she should be duly rewarded!
