Knit in bed.

Here it is, my creative space. I am sitting up in my bed with its mismatched linen and I am knitting the other sleeve of my grey cardi.

I'm not sure I could ever knit socks because sometimes I find doing the same thing twice a bit tedious. The first sleeve of this cardi was fun, but the second is a race to the finish line.

Miss Pepper is snoring softly beside me. Miss Pepper is sick, sick, sick. Poor little thing. Every now and then she wakes up to tell me she's still sick. Yuk!

I'm a bit sick too. And sick of being sick. And a bit sorry for myself.

In the photo I can see that I still hold the needles and yarn wrong. Funny, I've tried to imitate the YouTube ladies countless times but it just doesn't feel comfortable. I often wonder if I'd be quicker if I did it right.

I'm starting to think about my next knitting projects: a green beanie for Matt's baby, Noro wrist warmers for Indi, a vest for Pepper, a ballet wrap for Jazzy...I've even been thinking about knitting a jumper for my Farmer Boy but I am a bit concerned about The Sweater Curse.

And I'm wearing my green cardi. Did you recognise it? I wear it almost every day. Maybe I should knit another in red. Yep, I think I just might.

So what are you up to today? What are you making? I hope the sun is shining where ever you are.

Bye.

  5. I knitted the same cardigan you're wearing and I wear it heaps too! I also hold my needles and wool weirdly. My grandma often tells me off about it, but I'm reasonably quick, neat and my hands don't ache, so I think what does it matter? Plus, Grandma told me her twin used to hold them the same way as me! I'm knitting a dolls cardigan, mainly to get rid of the wool, but also for a friends daughters birthday.

Get better soon. No fun for anyone being ill. That article you read about the lady enjoying having time off mustn't have been that sick!

  6. Hope you all feel better soon . Love the cardie you're wearing, and look forward to seeing the one you're making. As for the way you hold you needles - well whatever suits. I'm a continental knitter and often get asked how I'm using my yarn and hooks.

  9. I hope you are both feeling better so soon. With your green cardi (I know, I'm obsessive!) did you have to change much of the pattern to knit it in thicker wool?

I would love to see a red one too x

  12. I wouldnt know if youre holding them right or wrong???
Haha the sweater curse! I do think if I made my Bren a turtle neck he'd THINK about leaving me. I did begin knitting him, when we first met, this awfully hideous jumper never to be finished, along the lines of Cuggi. EWWWW

  13. Oh Kate I do hope you feel better soon. It is crappy to feel crappy! The person who said she enjoyed being sick must not have been to sick and just needed a rest. Keep knitting and keep patting the head of the lovely child. Sometimes all they need is a little sympathy. xo

  15. I hope you are feeling better soon. The green cardi is lovely , I might have to make myself one of those. I hold my knitting strange too and my Grandmother told me that I would never be a good knitter if I didn't learn to hold them properly, I knit quick and neat and don't have a problem with the way I hold them :0)

  16. It is no good being sick Kate, and Miss Pepper too. At least you can knit in bed. I dont knit like the videos either - as they say as long as your happy with the way your knitting turns out and your comfortable then it is the right way to knit! All those projects sound like fun too, and I could just imagine a red cardi too. Dont worry about the sweater curse, I have knit Paul about 5 sweaters now and we are still together!

  17. I hope you and Pepper are both beter soon, and that is where the sickness stops. I LOVE your green cardi, and thing a red one would be perfect!

  21. Oh you poor little petals, it's no fun being unwell, everything becomes such a chore.

You do look comfy in your cute little cardi and I say don't worry about how you do your knitting, I think you are so quick and amazing as you are.

Never heard of the sweater curse before, "laugh in face of danger". HA HA HA !! You'll be fine.

Knitting grey, while your feeling grey can't be to much fun, still your almost done, then bring on the colour.

    Love Alison

  25. Poor sausages. Desperately looking for a bright side, at least it's not a case of non-knit sick. Knit sick is marginally better and gets sleeves outtadaway. Still waiting on yarn for my own version of your cardi. Will remain as healthy as all get out with a small lapse aimed to coincide with postal arrival.

    GET WELL.

  27. Hope you are both feeling better soon. We have been a bit poorly here too and it just gets boring after a while doesn't it?! I love your knitting projects and you have reminded me I still have a bit of knitting to finish myself.....if I leave it any longer I'll have to give it away...or have another baby to fit in the tiny jumper..!
Anyway lets not get carried away!! Love your cardi, very pretty and gorgeous colour. x

  28. we too are unwell in this little neck of the woods, it started with me & now the little poppit is ill & teething, not so much fun here!!!!!!!
I like to knit the 2 sleeves at the same time, yes it takes longer, but then you are done. I was always the same as you, I would finish the first & then hate doing the second!
Hope you & the princess get better soon.

  29. You knit like I knit, cept I'm a thrower. I tried the dark side but it meant I had to think too much and it took all the fun out of it.

  30. Get well soon honey, a red cardigan sounds like heaven. Me, i'm after a mustard coloured one right now, i think i've found one i like?? Love Posie

  31. Love your cardi, short sleeve cardis are just the best I reckon, especially here in Briz where it's too hot for long sleeves most of the year. Another in red sounds ideal, have you considered a dark aubergine- could be a lovely alternative to the sage green. Recover soon, perhaps just enough to have a few more days of knitting in bed.

  32. I hope you feel better soon. I love your photo and wonder - did you set it up to take automatically or did someone take it for you?

P.S. Love the green cardi too.

  33. So glad you took to your bed with your knitting today Kate, it sounds like that's just the thing you need. Oh but your poor baby. But to be snuggled up and snoozing while her mama's needles go click clack - what a divine thing.

    Take care.

  34. Hope you're both feeling much better soon!

  36. Hope you and Pepper are feeling better soon, Kate! Loving the green cardi muchos :) That brooch looks very interesting - is that a wooden frame around embroidery? Kx

  37. Sorry to hear that you are still in bed. But glad to hear that you are up to knitting. I don't think that I have noticed how cute that cardi is- but now that you have pointed it out I want to make one.
Here I stopped knitting long enough to cut out some dresses for presents...now I just need to stop knitting long enough to sew them up.

  38. oh sorry to hear miss pepper is sick too...

  39. Sorry to hear about the sickies going around! Hoping all feel better soon.

If you are comfortable with the way you knit and your projects come out the way you want, then you're not doing anything wrong. (I hold mine the same way and I've been knitting for several years. Its totally comfortable to me.)

  43. I know what you mean - once I've knit something once I rarely want to make the matching pair. And they never end up exactly the same, which annoys me. I'm so impressed by your knitting though! Your cardi is gorgeous (is it really cold enough in VIctoria to wear a cardi? I'm boiling here in sydney) and it sounds like you have a lot of projects lined up!

  44. How awful to be sick the same time as a sick child. Your cardi looks so comfi - hmm - it would be quite delicious in red.
Hope all the bugs clear out for the weekend.

  45. Hugs - have had a week of sickies here. I have managed to stay away from it - but am exhausted.

Hope that you and Pepper on the mend soon and no one else gets it.

  46. i hope you are both well and truly on the mend now. for a sickie you look quite glamorous in your snazzy green cardi. i am making pi's for miss 11 who has lost the elastic in her other pairs. i am dreaming about starting a dark grey tea leaves cardi for me. what yarn did you use to make yours? i have been madly searching the www for tosh merino but can't seem to find it

  47. I knit all wrong too. Hasn't stopped me yet. By the way, the old bloke has at least half a dozen jumpers off my needles over the years, and this year we're up to our 24th anniversary. (oh yes, I was a child bride)

  48. Hope you are feeling better soon. I have just finished a little baby cloche - and it's pretty easy if you are in to crochet :) Go and check it out - it took me far less time than knitting one did!
