It's hard to believe that in a few days time we will be back in the school, uniform, lunch, activities routine again. Its hard to imagine how we will cope with appointments, meetings and schedules. With bed times and meal times and homework times and wake ups times.
We've been swimming and digging and playing ball and exploring.
We've been walking through caravan parks and missing our road tripping life and talking about our next journey.
And we're loving hanging out with Miss Indi's friend Ethan, lent to us for five days. I know it's only short term, but things seem so much more balanced with a boy on board. Simpler. More active.
And despite the heat, I've been crocheting....and playing with my crochet.
And of course I've been op-shopping.
What's a trip to a small coastal town without the hunt for my buddies the Johnson Brothers and The Meakins? Who knows how the six of us plus luggage and thrifty finds are going to fit in the car on the way back.
Home again, home again tomorrow morning.
School uniform sorting, hair cutting, life organising for a few days.
And then the school year begins.
Deep breath.
What have you been up to lately?
Found any treasures?
Made anything gorgeous?
Been anywhere exciting?
Eaten anything delicious?
Do tell.
xx
Love your blog Kate! Also love the Johnson plates! School/life organising for the last few days too, found a lovely little vintage toy caravan, eaten lots of beautiful home grown vegetables!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with being back in the school routine. I hope you can find a way to hang onto the peace and tranquility you found while travelling.
ReplyDeleteI finished some bunting today. Ta dah post going up tomorrow. I love it and it's very exciting to have made something as I'm a beginner.
Have a fab week,
Anne xx
Yesterday I made a 3 panel cushion (it took me most of the day!) out of my left over curtain material for the motor home. It has dark orange bobble on 2 sides.
ReplyDeleteLooks (and sounds) gorgeous! I'm already back into the school routine and holidays are like a distant memory.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the final days xx
ps..your blue plate finds are sensational!
I become a proper school Mama this year. Only two days to go... and then I have to get out of my PJs at a respectable time five days a week. Mmm. Don't know how good I am going to be at this new gig. I'm not very organised.
ReplyDeleteLove your last minute trip to the beach.
Fantastic pictures Kate! I can't believe it's time to give up lazy days for regular routine, it's gone way too quick. I can only imagine how it must feel for you travelers! Love your finds there..x
ReplyDeleteI have a question.
ReplyDeleteDid you intentionally line up the railings in the first two pics side by side? If so. That is too cool.
Im lately thinking, if I had sent you my strips when you offered way back when, it would have cured you of crochet for good! hah.
Kidding really. You rock stitching.
x
OOoooo!! I'm loving your thrifty finds! Ands till very envious of the crochet! Must learn! haha!
ReplyDeleteOh Kate! I will fight you for those Meakin pieces! I have a matching serving bowl. :) Awesome taste there Miss.
ReplyDeleteAll the best with finding your groove and routine with the start of school. I remember the excitement of going back to school. New books, new hair, new pens. Catching up with friends. Hope the girls enjoy themselves. xx
Oh god, I don't know how you'll cope either you poor thing! I'm dreading the normal waking and sleeping hours myself and I've only had 1 week holiday!
ReplyDeleteGood on you for making the most of the last minute of holidays. I look forward to seeing what you get up to back at work too!
loving the crochet too. I wish I could work as fast as you!
Rach x
We squeezed the marrow out if the hols as well. It was wonderful. x
ReplyDeleteLoving how those top two pics fit together!!
ReplyDeleteI've not been well last week, so trying to catch up
with everyone. Greta started Year 1 - so exciting!
She can't wait for homework...!?
We just came home from the beach too. Two weeks of perfect beach weather. I've decided life would be so much easier in a tent. One day in and the routine has exhausted me!
ReplyDeleteTotally jelly of those Op shop finds....such a score ..love the pink one
Deletewe spent the last few days of the holidays at the beach in our van too. I spent my quiet time crocheting... ahhhhh bliss
ReplyDeleteI'm not looking forward to school starting. I love the lazy starts, the kids dorm & the generally slower pace!
ReplyDeleteOn the boy thing...I think it could be boy (in our case he absolutely makes things easier/funner/more active) OR it could be a numbers thing. We were a three girl, girl, boy & we used to borrow a second boy for all our holidays & weekends away. He made everything easier/funner/more different. It's nice to mix it up. x
What a great way to end your holidays Kate. I agree that having a boy in the mix makes it so much more enjoyable. How nice for Indi to have a friend to join her! Your crocheting seems to be growing quickly despite the heat. I think my knitting has slowed somewhat due to the hot weather! Hope everything goes smoothly for the back to school transition.
ReplyDeleteWe've only had 6 weeks so far and already I can't imagine timetables...
ReplyDeleteHang onto the wonderful...
Only a few weeks left on our big adventure Kate-very sad but looking forward to getting home too and being more creative. Will there be time? I bought 4 mugs in esperance and some vintage fabric in Streaky Bay. Did you get a new haircut?? Hard to tell but it looks great the way you're wearing it in the pic :-) Mel x
ReplyDeleteWriting names on 60+ coloured and lead pencils, texta crayons and felt pens may not sound creative, but I had the potato peeler out and I nearly mastered the art of the close peel of paint at the end of an HB.
ReplyDeleteI have been following your travels since a friend forwarded me your blog (back when you were in Broome), saying she pictured me in your van. I only just started blogging so haven't been able to comment until now - but I have loved watching your journey through country I know so well. Good luck with the new routine. Alison
I found treasure at the op-shop today! I've got plans for an old curtain I picked up. Good luck transitioning back into school time.
ReplyDeleteOh my, you are making dreamy for the beach, though it'd be a bit cooler on our end. Lovely pics as always! As for routine, I was having trouble this morning ... wishing someone else could get the start of the day stuff done. My girl might be a bit puzzled by her lunchbox ingredients today :)
ReplyDeleteAs for me, there has been quite a lot of living in my head (oh dear) thinking a lot about what "normal" means and "typical" and then trying to ignore those terms altogether. Been making my surroundings bright and happy. Had a delicious bowl of fruit for snack.
It sounds like a great little break before the return to school, I am a little sad about it, but only for selfish reasons. Caleb is looking forward to he routine and friends and learning stuff. I do love them and a little sad they are over but it is hard work, working from home with them both home!
ReplyDeleteI have been sewing a bit, doing a little making, I must blog!
One of my favorite-ist places in the world (when its not too busy!)we're lucky to live within an easy drive, and I do know the Op shopping down there is amazing. Good luck with getting back into the school routine, I feel the same after only 6 weeks or so.kind of glad theyre starting on friday, so we get a practice run and then two days off LOL
ReplyDeleteso beautiful!
ReplyDeletewe are breathing. the school year is starting and the floods are receding time to find a routine that works...

Hi Kate and Co - inspired by friends, family and indeed your blog - i have just returned from a 8 week stint in India - my version of EAT, PRAY, LOVE - kind of EAT, SHOP, LAUGH - combined with a great stint at an orphanage in South India. While away a dropped in at home regular via the iPAD or some very dodgy internet cafes and Foxs Lane was always a stop. You may like to know your Mum's amazing book travelled with me and was a gifted to some amazing people I met along the way facing similar challenges - it helped them so very much. Just wanted to say hi - I love your thoughts, words and deeds - may this coming year as it really gets started be one of the best yet for you and yours. JD
ReplyDeleteOoh, hope you all settle well back in to the school year. Looks like a lovely little beach getaway you had there.
