end week.

It's the weekend. Hoorayyyyyy!!!!

Farmer Bren has gone to pick up the girls from school and I'm sitting here dreaming about all that I want to do this weekend and all that I don't. I feel like we are in desperate need of some slow time in this family. Some together time, some quiet time, some time to catch up.

Maybe I'll get a bit of crochet done. A stripe or two of the granny blanket or a fourth ears beanie for my farmer boy who looked at his girls all wearing them the other day and suggested that he just might like one too.

I might even get a chance to write up the pattern for those of you who have been asking.

We'll probably make some more pesto because it seems to be disappearing on toast and pasta as quickly as I've been making it.

Hopefully this weekend will involve a fair bit of hanging out here.

Maybe a dress will come of this pile this weekend.

A new dress would be nice don't you think?

Do you have piles of projects dotted about the house like I do?

I might get a chance to read the new Peppermint magazine over a cuppa.
Oh look there's our caravan!

If the weather is sunny we might get a chance to fill up and plant out some new kitchen garden beds. We need more space and these parts from the old apple sorting machine look perfect.

I know the girls are desperate to come home and keep colouring their babushka colouring books. Manda made them. Aren't they divine! I must say I'm a bit excited that Manda included a colouring book for me in the parcel too so I don't have to share.

Ms Manda is going to be selling them soon so be sure to keep an eye on her blog for the details.

And I'm really looking forward to slowing down and noticing the details, to movie night tonight, to doing the farm chores, to preserving the apples and to having Bren's folks up for lunch.

Maybe it'll all happen, maybe it wont, it really doesn't matter to me as long as we can slow it all down and be together.

What have you got planned?
Are you heading into a wild, exciting weekend or a calm and relaxing one?
Whatever you have planned, I hope it's wonderful.

See ya. xx

  1. I'm watching the sun come back out and hoping for some more garden time this weekend, and a trip to a local school fete (the girl is hoping they'll have a "chair o plane" ride)... and we'll be making pesto too! Hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend too, Kate xo

  2. We will be eating fush and chups and watching This Way of Life projected onto a bed sheet strung between two karri trees. Slowly does it here for us. Enjoy your slow weekend. x

  3. I much prefer quiet weekends just hanging out and doing whatever. I often try to stay in pajamas as long as possible, but hubby doesn't always go for it. He is always wanting to run around here there and everywhere. But when we are rushing out the door every morning for school and rushing back home to do it all again, I just like to kick back and relax. Your weekend plans sound wonderful. Enjoy! Tammy

  4. Ah, what a good post. I am envying Pepper and her nose full of basil! We have a wild one coming up. Saturday we'll have a 7 year old in the house, so there will be much a-do. Unfortunately it looks due to the weather a Pinata is out of the question; when my girl suggested we do it in the living room - blindfolded 6-7 year olds with a big stick swinging madly in our living room...I am truly sorry, but out of the question. Though we have already bought the Orca Whale she's been begging for, so it should all even out.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  5. I'm so jealous of your garden. I have tried and tried and tried to grow some vegies but one of three things happens: either (1) they don't come up at all, (2), they get eaten by beasties in their lovely green shoot phase, or (3) just die for no reason I can understand once they get to about 10cm in height. I'll just have to enjoy yours vicariously!
    xXx Helen

  6. ohh youre in peppermint ! i have the new one here, just bribing me to finish my essay due monday and my uni work for this week ! i think ill get into it right now ! :) busy saturday planned here ! slower sunday :) Very jealous of your vegie patches ! but no so jealous of on-the-cusp-teenagers ! I think you handled the whole facebook thing marvelously ! welll, thats how I read it ! enjoy :)

  7. Hey Kate! Are those courgette flowers in the last shot??
After 3 months of waiting, we are off to see Mary Poppins
at the theatre tomorrow - Yay!!!XX

  8. My weekends tend to be busier than weekdays (me a working mom) , most of my work gets done on weekends.. but still it is good and rejuvenating to spend time at home or in our garden (we currently have broccoli, lettuce, spinach, fenugreek, radish, curry leaves, chillies growing in our kitchen garden and lots and lots of roses in our main garden) with my two young sons ..talking to them.. playing with them.. teaching them..
I usually bake for them..make pastas.. do some household chores and if time permits crochet or cross stitch or hardanger ...
Just wanted to mention, your blog is warm and inspiring .. look forward to your posts everyday :)

  9. We have movie night too! Friday night special with dinner on the floor. Such a treat.
Busy weekend here - local festival that I am organising..... see you on the flipside! Xx

  10. Ooo I love the pillows! I have a vintage sheet here, waiting to be made into a basket lining, all the way from Switzerland to South Africa!

Enjoy the weekend. We're moving furniture around, from one room to the other, as well as piles and piles of books. What a job.

Looking forward to you beanie pattern! We'll be visiting my sis in cold wet Ireland over December, so 4 beanies will be hooked up for that :-)

  11. Oooh you have the Stylish Dress Book. I've been procrastinating about buying it. It's so lovely. I also love the others she's written.
Those parts from the apple sorting machine are fabulous, just perfect for veg growing.

  12. Sounds like a lovely sort of weekend to me. We've been talking about pretending like we're on holidays but really staying home. So, on that holiday-mode note, think I'll go run a bath!

  13. I bought another crochet rug the other day because of your influence!
    Just had to say.
I had to snort(smallish)when you asked if we have projects dotted around the house. There I go again. Oh my word you should see what ive done with the (new) place. Im seriously thinking about paying the youngest whatever he asks to put my fabric away for me.
Ive got Mordialloc Food and Wine Festival this weekend but dont feel like sewing at all.

    ps Wanna come?

  14. I've never crotched in my life, but damn it, I will if I can make one of those ears beanies for my little missy! So gorgeous. :)

  15. Your weekend no plans and plans sound lovely.
I'll be trying to survive the Grand Prix, urghh.

  16. We are planning to go to a hockey game tonight - the Hartford Whale and tomorrow heading to Northhampton, Mass - the home of the largest yarn store in the States..there are other things to do's a fun, funky college town...but really the yarn and the burritos pull us back every time...

  17. I nearly bought Peppermint the other day and then didn't. Will have to go back for it now! I can relate to the little (or not so little) piles of projects, or wishful projects dotted around the house. It is one of the biggest causes of contention between us - but for the most part he is quite tolerant :) I have that Stylish Dress book and some fabric aside too (but lacking the time to actually do it).
Loving all your pictures and especially those green containers for plants. Enjoy your weekend Kate xo

  18. I love that your boy suggested he needed a beanie too. Great compliment to your craft work!

  19. Best of luck with working through all those little projects ... but perhaps I should wish more luck with that whole 'slowing down' vibe ... I'm terrible at relaxation and taking it easy. I plan on laying low this weekend, sorting through the mountain of books that are about to head off to a charity store and drinking lots of tea and coffee. :)

  20. It's gonna be a bit of a nana-ish weekend for me...working a bit on some of my many projects that litter our home, some baking and lots of reading. Love slow, gentle weekends like this :)

Enjoy where ever your weekend takes you Kate.

  21. project piles :tick
pesto disappearing as fast as chef makes it :tick
hanging out in bed: tick tick tick
have a lovely one lovely lady. xxx

  22. Enjoy your togetherness!

All plans went out the window when my boy vomited all over me this morning! We HAD been planning to meet up with some friends today. But now he is spending the day in bed. It's the first time he has thrown up (he is 3.25 years old) and so it's thrown us all (excuse the pun). But it does mean we are together!

Tomorrow we are meant to be holding a stall at the local markets. Might be husband doing that solo while I keep the child at home. And the necessary juggle of how to transport our stuff and set up and pack up will have to be thought about later tonight.

Ah the joys of the unexpected!

  23. I have that book of Japanese-inspired dresses. I haven't yet made anything from it but do enjoy looking through it. I've pinned the pillowcase on one of my Pinterest boards.

  24. I love that japanese tunis book. It is on my shelf waiting patiently for me. I am hoping for a slow weekend, it's raining again and secretly I'm glad because last weekend i spent all saturday mowing.... Hope your weekend is lovely. Happy colouring and crocheting xxx

  25. Ooh, I made dress 'x' from that lovely pattern book this week, and just wrote about it (dress x sounds a bit ominous, doesn't it..) hope you are enjoying your quiet!!

  26. all the little projects I want to do are buzzing round in my head, not sure what to do first. I would love to try and make a little bag out of some vintage fabric i won in a giveaway recently. Family time, catchup with a friend at the local nursery for a cuppa and a wander. HOpe your has turned out just how you want it. Jane x

  27. We've had a very relaxing weekend. A long time on the playground with the kids and then a delicious home cooked dinner!

  28. Amazingly I have the matching sheet to the yellow pillow case in the bed photo. :D It is waiting to become a dress for my 5 year old who loves yellow.

Hope you had a great weekend.

  29. ohhhh... I'm jealous of your weekend! I feel like I get NOTHING done, in comparison! But I"m inspired to get off the computer and go get something acheived right now!! xxx

  30. Hope you ended up with the weekend you were hoping for?

In the UK it was Mother's Day this Sunday, so I had a lovely day being spoiled! I've got the Monday Morning blues now though!! just counting down the days till next weekend...sad isn't it!

    Happy Weekdays
    Fleur xx

  31. I wish I'd seen your granny stripe blanket before I started mine. I've used the same colour for two rows but yours looks wonderful with a different colour every row. Now I'll have to make another one.

  32. Oooo. It is my birthday soon. I've been wanting that book for ages... do you think I should just go online and get it? Is it good? It is about $30 on fishpond and $15 on book depository ... but with the later you have to wait 126days. That's a long time isn't it? I should probably get it now hey? Just incase... ???
    Your thoughts?

  33. Hi! This is kind of off topic but I need some guidance from an
established blog. Is it difficult to set up your own blog?

I'm not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I'm thinking about creating my own but I'm not sure where to start. Do you have any tips or suggestions? With thanks
