This afternoon was the very last of the winter school holidays. Tomorrow we're back in the thick of it. Waking up to the alarm, uniforms, lunchboxes and all the other joys of term three.
This afternoon the girls sat for hours at the kitchen table discussing what they liked and didn't about school and making intricate collages with cuttings and drawings.
This afternoon when farmer Bren asked if I wanted to walk with him and do a bit of a stock take of the chook houses, I encouraged the girls to come too. I'm sure they wanted to, but a piece of bubble gum each sweetened the deal.
So we walked.
Crunching through leaves, sloshing through muddy puddles, admiring mushrooms and fairy houses and climbing over and under logs.
And then, when we got to the back paddock, we started screaming. SCREAMING!!!!!!!!
I have no idea who started it or why but once we started we couldn't stop.
All together and then one at a time.
High screams.
Low screams.
Silly screams.
It was so exhilarating and so liberating. It was such fun and it was SO LOUD!!
At a time when the city grass is starting to look greener to one member of our family, it was great to remind her that ours is pretty lush too. Making such a racket would not be the done thing when your neighbours are a only few meters away.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay term three, bring it on! We're ready for you. And if at anytime you prove too much, we now know that screaming therapy works.
Shout, shout, let it all out....
Happy week peeps.
When was the last time you had a good yell?
Go on, I highly recommend it.

Thanks so much for stopping by...
I do read every single comment you leave and appreciate it very much, but I should let you know that I can be a wee bit on the useless side when replying to comments, that's just me, everyday life sometimes gets in the way....so I'll apologise now, just in case.

My boys' favourite kinda therapy... They're at it most of the day. My ears hurt all the time and they ring all the time, and I try and make it an outside thing. But they're boys... You'd think they would have had their fill of this therapy by now. Me? I just want hush. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh no, inside shouting is something else entirely.
DeleteI am not at all a fan of that one.
Fantastic - what a great thing to do. You can see the exhilaration on their faces, very cathartic!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, you must be the most fun Mum hahaha. Looks like the screaming was good for you all! Sad (and yet, happy too) for me school went back this morning. The hectic rush of getting everyone ready and out the door on time.... yup. I'm already over it ;) Wishing you luck for a calm morning tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteoh that is just hilarious KAte!!!...wheres your pic? We spent most of the holidays at our soon to be home on acreage and I never had to tell the kids to be quiet...now we are back in melbourne i shudder to think what our neighbours say about my racous children!!! soon it won't be an issue! happy term 3 Kate! xx
ReplyDeleteYep, I held onto my camera very tight and just screamed louder when anyone suggested a photo of me. xx
DeleteYep, your's right about the city and not making noise! My kids often play outside and the neighbour down the back is always complaining about the noise they are making. Makes me want to scream!!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were little my mum was always sending us down to the back of the garden to 'let off steam'. It never occured to me to think of the poor neighbours. Ha, I wonder what they must have thought.
Deleteone of our most favourite family jokes is to shout PENIS as loud as possible.
ReplyDeleteit always makes us laugh uncontrollably.
best.
inappropriate probably......but whatevs
BEST pics ever Katie.
we are totally coming over to scream SOOOOOOON!
xxxx
If any family was allowed to shout PENIS, it's your family! For sure. xx
DeleteSo your family shout shout Vagina!!!!!
DeleteI'm laughing so hard right now. Geez, you're funny ladies. x
DeleteI love this. off to a round of screaming myself!
ReplyDeleteI screamed the other morning, out of sheer frustration at trying to get my kids to put some clothes on. Of course, everyone got upset then, so it was completely ridiculous, but it kind of felt good too! I can't remember the last time I screamed like that. Should probably have sent my neighbour a reassuring text message... xK
ReplyDeletemy boys are screaming often, our sweet 86 yr old neighbour says she doesn't hear them but I know she does.. I do love it when we go to the beach and we can really shout and our voices are carried out to sea, it is good therapy, you're right x
ReplyDeleteNo screaming here, just the occasional yelling at children and pets. :) Sounds rather therapeutic though. Hope the term got off to a good start. xx
ReplyDeleteoh for some open space to do some yelling - love it <3
ReplyDeleteWe also returned to school today for Term 3 and indulged in a similar shouting frenzy in the car on the way home! It seemed the right thing to do on the freeway!!! xxx
ReplyDeleteI like this post a lot :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes, when I am driving alone on the motorway, I like to scream until I make my own ears ring. Good for the soul. Scream on!
ReplyDeleteWe all like a shout on a windy day on top of the hill or in the woods. Great stuff! JO x
ReplyDeleteooo how wonderful! Pictures are epic!! for me running in the rain feels like this! xxxx
ReplyDeleteSuch great photos! Funny that you wouldn't let yourself be photographed! My last great scream, funnily enough, was at a fox running too near our house paddock! (He ran away, very fast.)
ReplyDeletelove your style, lady! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post! I can't stop smiling (which I think is equally good therapy) :)
ReplyDeleteHappy week to you guys and happy term 3 too. Kx
We have a 5 month old who screamed for a couple of hours yesterday ... Funny, it didn't feel therapeutic!
ReplyDeleteIn the suburbs I send my boy into the yard with a big stick to hit the ground or the fence or a tree with.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! I must admit I think my neighbours might be a bit surprised if their quiet retiree suddenly ran down the garden yelling, but it does sound fun and I know just the wooded hideaway to try it. We are just about to start our long 'summer' hols here ( and I have to whisper this, we may even get a summer!) So I might have to let the grandsons have a go at this.
ReplyDeleteI just had a long uncontrollable laugh and giggle which was pretty good - helped by two lovely young Swedish backpackers who are staying with us on the farm
ReplyDeleteLove it and love the look of that winter sun! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh, that was so funny. Thanks for the laugh.
ReplyDeleteCATHARTIC.... and perfect for the start of ANY school term. I'm a teacher. I can vouch for it! xx
ReplyDeleteShouting therapy - love it - so good for the soul. One of the joys of living in large open spaces.
ReplyDeleteSo funny. It's hard to believe anyone of you wants to leave that beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteThis also reminds me of our family--how one person will start whistling (usually in the car)--and then everyone else starts to whistle too. But no one is whistling the same song, or even a song or tune at all. We're all just whistling. Why?? For the sheer joy and silliness of it, I guess.
You guys are hilarious. What an awesome idea.
ReplyDeleteYou're so lucky, you start screaming here in Suburbia, someone calls the police. But then again, thank goodness for Neighbourhood Watch lol.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to try laughter therapy next. They do it all over India and I joined a group at the local park when I lived in Mumbai. Its so stupid its hilarious. I can picture you guys doing it on your next walk!
ReplyDeleteYes!!!!!
