I made this!

To be completely honest with you, I cannot believe I made this.

The clothes I make are usually unstructured, make it up as I go along, skirts, dresses and pants.

But this is something else entirely. This is a reversible/lined winter jacket. This is something I would admire in a shop and not even contemplate trying to work out how it was made, to copy it.

The Uptown Girl by Make it Perfect pattern is fantastic! I followed it down to the pressing open of the seams and clipping of the curved seam allowances and it worked.

I made Miss Pepper a size three which is a bit big for her at the moment but will last longer.

I also used iron on interfacing that I had left over from my hat making mania last year that was probably a bit stiff for this project but I have a feeling a machine wash will soften it.

The big girls have put in an order each which is always a good indication of how successful a project is, so it looks like I'll be scaling the pattern up to fit sizes six and nine.

Oh yeah and I still have to find a big button and sew a button hole to replace the safety pin for the closure and then crochet a trim for the plain side.

I hope you have a fantastic, sunshiney weekend. XX

  15. That's so cool! I have that pattern, and I even have fabric and lining to use! The aim is to have it done by the time the cool weather appears, but that might be sooner than I think! I love your fabric options, and I'm not surprised you've had orders for bigger ones :-)

  29. No offense to your sewing skills but I reckon the darling Miss Pepper could wear a hessian sack and make it look adorable!
Seriously though, I have a phobia of following a pattern so I commend you on the completion of this project! It looks amazing, I can't believe it's reversible too, that must have been tricky! And they always have to be big, don't they, to fir the extra layers underneath.
She's a lucky girl that Pepper!

  38. wow Kate what can I say, the jacket is absolutely gorgeous you have done an AMAZING job it is so pretty and looks so snuggly on Pepper, the mixture of vintage sheets looks brilliant. I am the opposite to you I used to in another lifetime use patterns and make clothes for work, I haven't done it for years now and don't think I could except I make really easy pants and tops I seem to have developed ADD with age!!!!!!!
ps I took a photo that might just be ok xx

  45. Super-cute and inspiring! Good work! I recognize well the "fear" of complicated patterns and how this often leads to actually much more challeging (but more fun) inventions of own solutions. But, the results can then be pretty unexpected...

  46. Cripes! In my book this makes you PROFESH. I imagine you desperate for cooler weather and rightly so. Inspired stuff...
