Creatively speaking...

I am carrying this basket of yarny rainbows where ever I go.
I am hooking grannies.

I am trying to be good and sew in the ends as I go.
But not always succeeding.
I am playing with our farmers' market stall.
Think mixy-matchy table-cloths and rushed single layer unhemmed bunting.
I am playing around with my second quilt.
A mini, yellow, quarter version of Kate's pattern.
I think it might become a cushion cover.
We are shopping for paint to paint the whole house white.
Except the girls' bed rooms which they want blue.
I still would love a yellow kitchen but the farmer boy wont budge.
I am celebrating op shop treasures by draping them over everything that stands still for long enough.
One dollar for these two rolls of old lace! Can you believe!
And I am trying to style a few lovely corners of my home to make me feel better about the vast majority which looks like a bomb has gone off in it. Ahhhh school holidays. Love em.

What about you?
What have you been up to creatively?

Bye! x

  1. I've been making covers for ugly wire coat hangers and crocheting cat bookmarks. Shame about no yellow kitchen. :(

  3. it took my 3 years to convince the Mr to paint the whole inside of the house white and get rid of our yellow kitchen, so I with Bren, sorry, you know I am always honest when taking sides in your family disputes, the magic words that finally convinced him: I will never change my mind. so M and I stayed at a friends place for 2 nights and the boys moved in and painted almost the whole thing.

I love white walls, makes everything you hang on them pop.

  5. Mmmmm, blue sandals...nice choice
What about spray painting the fridge yellow? Would he object to that?
Ive always wanted a blue one.
    Im attacking our place too.
Very slowly though as I needed to catch up on sleep from the weekend.
Your crocheting makes me feel giddy,

  6. Loving that old lace!
We've been shopping for paint too -
got some chairs on ebay to paint over. (and an op shopped dresser for Eva)
Though I've discovered that spray paint is much
quicker, easier and looks better than the old brush strokes!!X

  12. I'm so jealous of your bargain-priced lace! Have a look a Mia's blog gorgeous blog, she sews this kind of vintage lace into her patchwork quilts and Christmas stockings. She also has a completely white painted house (http://miaslandliv.blogspot.com/). I had a yellow kitchen for years and just loved it. It's now painted in Farrow & Ball's 'String' (so is the whole ground floor) which goes with everthing and really seems to bring the outside in. Loving the grannies!

  13. I think farmer boy cpuld be right about the all white. My lifetimes experience has taught me that the more co-ordination in the background of the room, the more mess is acceptable in the front. And white is a great clean background. I love it when all my (ahem - adult) family are out because the used cups and glasses stay down to zero on the sink as I reuse mine. I used to use that exact same lace you have there to edge all my net curtains in wet areas. It saved on having to turn hemms neatly. Here I have done a littl eop shopping, a lot of Pinterest and a few zippers. Only four more to go before I can send the pillows to their new homes and start on the next project. Cherrie

  14. LOVe your second mini yellow quilt, it's glorious Kate!!!
Speaking as someone who always wanted a yellow kitchen and now has one there are the best and please please Bren change your mind.
no colour suits a kitchen more and everytime you walk in there you can't help but feel happy and it makes the room so warm ( not temperature, i mean welcoming and friendly)
plus I don't think it's as hard to keep clean as white.
    good luck xo

  15. I love your pretty sandles, and your basket of yarn, and your colourful grannys, but I also LOVE all white walls. Think of it as a backdrop, an open pallet. Me, I am working on and loving my wool eater crochet along (with Sarah London)

I have started a couple of "how to" posts for the blog. A cheater crochet project & a macro lens project too.

  17. oh - nice colours in your photos and those sandles are super cute. We are about to repaint our interior too and think I am going to do all neutral , so easy to live in. I have been looking at Yvestown.com blog - lovely and fresh looking white backdrop but don't think my boy would have a bar of all that pretty pink she has!

  20. I do that also "style a few lovely corners of my home to make me feel better about the vast majority which looks like a bomb has gone off in it".

A clean dining table with a vase of flowers works wonders :-)

CReatively....Over the weekend I made a bag for my Mums dancing shoes and a super huge Black Forest Birthday cake for her also. It was dangerously delicious.

  24. I usually am have not managed to do anything creative, that I would share anyway. But this weekend I gave my whole self to putting on a witches party for my girl who so desperately wanted it. She was thrilled, which means I was too.

  25. Love what is happening in your world Kate, those grannies are lovely.
Most of my creating is still in my head and yet to be put into motion but I have started painting an old shelving unit to house all my thrifted treasures found over the weekend :)

  26. I'm struggling to keep the caravan clean and tidy, let alone having look after a house. I think when you are busy making such beautiful creations like the ones you are doing then there wouldn't be time for house stuff at all and who cares anyway. And I could almost jump on the crochet bandwagon looking at those lovely granny squares :-) Mel xx

  29. I am busy trying to learn how to crochet...in my left handed kind of way. I love your granny squares Kate. I am also having dates with each kid- a school holiday tradition, yesterday the boy and I went to a games shop at a local town and then went to a local swimming pool and swam and hung out. Today Cam is taking the girl fishing...I love hols, but yep, a bit of my house could do with some nice corners in it too!!

  30. White walls will be wonderful...that way you can add any colours you like, and with that beautiful rainbow of yarn I don't think you will have any trouble doing that! We have been painting too, two rooms to go...unfortunately those rooms also need tiling...

Love the idea of rushed single layer unhemmed bunting!

I have just finished designing a little set of mini cards with bunting and hearts for my shop and I am crocheting a circular cushion cover for me!

  31. First prize for best sandals EVA. Also your granny is to die for. It's the prettiest thing. I wish I could send Adam, the retailing guru, to play market stalls too! He did wonders with a few old wooden boxes and an old ammo case or two on ours!! Dear Bren, yellow kitchens are the best. Food tastes better cooked in a yellow kitchen. Absolutely true. Not that I currently have one. But I used to. Just better. Dib dib. xx

  33. I am in a big blah craft funk. Not finishing anything. Not starting anything. House full of crumbs and junk and grumpy kids. Bah humbug! The nice thing about a white kitchen is that your yellow accessories will look gorgeous. Just imagine a big bunch of yellow jonquils on the windowsill :)
