We started shifting stuff back into the white rooms but tried our hardest to be choosy.
We sent Miss Indi off to a Bar Mitzvah party.
We partied like rock stars on Saturday night.
We frocked up and hung out with friends that are more like family, that share our history.
Then we tried to remember to enjoy the rarity that is the seedy Sunday.
We felt our age when it took us days to recover.
We started to consider swapping a road trip up the coast for an inner city stay.
We made crazy hair styles for school.
We were informed by Miss Pepper that teddies are stuffed!!
I knitted more stripes for the pipes.
We finished with Miss Pepper's vomits and started with Miss Indi's.
We spent the day in Ballarat while the Prado got a chunky new tow bar and new window seals.
We read cook books from cover to cover and were excited to find our name in Matt's.
My beautiful grandmother Lucy, who died of Alzeheimers three and a half years ago, started coming back to me. The good stuff, the real Dandenong road Booba, not the sickness. The memories and feelings are so precious and I am so grateful.
I saw Miss Pepper in the door-way and thought it was a four year old Indi.
I ate a gazillion sour oranges off R and J's tree.
I felt swollen with inspiration but itchy with lack of time.
I wondered how people with fringes (bangs) cope with constant rain.
I questioned the wisdom of having a dog.
We baked the apple tart recipe we had been saving for the new cooker.
It's the French Style Apple Tart from The River Cottage Family Cookbook.
I wanted to sit down and write stories here, but with the constant interuptions had to be happy with points. I'll get there.
So what's going on with you so far this week?
Are you making and baking?
Is it hot there or freeezing cold?
Are you guys well, are you happy, are you good?
I hope so.
See ya. xx
That pie looks amazing!! It was foggy here in the Adelaide Hills this morning, but it looks like it's clearing off a bit now. I've already collected 3 eggs from my rock star chickens, and yesterday I bought some canvases to collage. Wish my fingers weren't so cold though. Fringes might be tough, I have crazy afro ringlets all over now thanks to the damp grey winter. At least the rain makes one part of my body happy!!
ReplyDeleteit has been rather chilly for june weather - here in canada. i have been making art and waiting patiently for the children to be done with school. your pie is awesome - very autumn-ish. which it is not here - we are all strawberries and flowers here. i am happy and well and good - thank you for asking. :)
ReplyDeleteDo you know how sensational that tart looks...amazing! I bet it tasted scrumptious too :)
ReplyDeleteIt is so bitter cold here in the West this year that I fear I will never feel warm again. Makes me long for an open fire like we had back home. With this chill comes a huge lack of motivation and a list a mile long.
Aside from that we are all well :)
Enjoy your week lovely.
x
Oh my goodness that tart looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI like your 'points'. Mine read ... it rained, there were floods, fell over in mud, dislocated jaw (not as a result of falling over), dog has vomits (hence my typing at 2.30am UK time) and more equally depressing stuff. Well you did ask.
Hope your good times continue x
That's one tarty sensation(!) and the rest of the post is full to brimming with the rollercoaster that is a life well lived. Still, I'm finding it difficult to move past the word 'vomit' and the word 'chunky' in the very next dot point. I think this says more about me (and the hang ups), than about you.
ReplyDeleteYour tart looks like a beautiful flower. Hope it tasted as good as it looks!
ReplyDeleteOur week has been a crazy one with, Mr 4 getting tick paralysis, hospital stays, blood tests, medicines, creams, rain, walking, drumming performances and 3 kids in need of school holidays......luckily they are only 5 sleeps away :)
Second time retyping my comment - pressed a key and it all disappeared! Hoping the girls are better by the time school holidays roll around next week. Your apple tart looks delicious, just the perfect food for our cold weather. I seem to be really feeling it this year. Had a little giggle when I read you had to recover from your partying, just remembering the old days when I used to take an entire weekend to recover and then had to go to work. Hope your all keeping warm!
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like a bit of Hugh to make everything better, and knowing it was cooked I that gorgeous oven must really put a smile on your face.
ReplyDeleteCool here in the west. Not old though.
Big kiddy over a cold, second one nearly better. They do love to share.
Point form is fine. Can't concentrate on words anyway with those tart photos distracting me...
ReplyDeleteLOVE the you tube clip! Gorgeous x
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic YouTube clip! It felt like really meeting you, if that makes any sense? Silly thing to say I guess but it was so fun seeing you both there :) Had to laugh about the 'not bouncing back' thing... yes, it's a sobering moment isn't it (pardon the pun!). Hope the girls are feeling better soon. That tart looks totally AMAZING btw - very fancy ;) Kx
ReplyDeletep.s. what' Mona's new name going to be?
People with fringes do not cope at all with constant rain.
ReplyDeleteit was nice to hear to hear your voice agin and to hear Brens for the first time.
we had a weekend of sickness here- no vomiting just fever, not us, just Busy.
I feel like this pregnancy is a constant hangover. I don't know how people do it ( go rock star I mean) on a regular basis.
Your tart looks very fancy.
xx
Oh there is such sickness, flu, a drag nothing deadly in our household, week 3. Loving reading blogs, reading books, making poms poms, buying what is in season, looking up old recipes and cooking. The sickie can still eat so I am making all the faves and that French apple tart is beautiful to look at and I am sure equally beautiful to eat.
ReplyDeleteI get out for a walk everyday with my dog and inadvertently taken a couple weeks off from paid work...somehow its a very nice place to be in! Thanks
This tart looks good! I wanted to try this after seeing it on your instagram last night ...
ReplyDeleteKel x
Hi Kate,
ReplyDeletenot much going on so far this week...
It's freezing here and a bit of rain. Making lots of hearty dinners for cold nights.
A little bit of sickness (colds).
And as a person with a fringe I find it incredibly difficult during winter, lots of frizz, kinks etc.
Mama mash xo
I watched the clip three times over immediately, x.
ReplyDeleteNice looking pie!
And....I would have loved to help you restore your white room to whatever you wanted it to be Kate
I cut myself a fringe recently too but since I love the rain I dont care what I look like when in it I guess. Plus I tend to go out only to walk the dog and its dark and late and no-one can see me.
ps Big day for us at TTL :)
I enjoy your little wrap ups immensely. I'm gonna watch the video now. x
ReplyDelete"I felt swollen with inspiration but itchy with lack of time".....I hear that... I hear that loud and clear! Now how about a slice of that pie with some runny cream? xx
ReplyDeleteHas puppy been naughty? I have been questioning the wisdom of having toddlers...
ReplyDeleteI have felt that there are so many books and so little time.
I have discovered the This American Life podcasts. Perfect listening while knitting - http://www.thisamericanlife.org/podcast
I have been lurking on blogs and not leaving comments because I have a baby on my lap.
xx
Loving the tart but my sympathies on the up-chucks.
ReplyDeleteHubby and I spent 3 days in Melbourne for my 20 year Uni graduation reunion (= I am officially old) 2 very late nights (make that 2 early mornings) in a row involving alcohol...I am hearing you on the slow recovery time.
Hope that everyone is germ-free now.
BTW your fringe does rock & do do you - it was like catching up with another sister I'd forgotten I had . One that does still hOld my history in her hand. Memories are funny like that- Lucy , Poppa, Fluff , they're all hangin' out enjoying each others company & watching us create a new generation of golden memories. Much love , kutchkee x
ReplyDeleteCold here and flu-ey but happy because another stage of our house renovations began today!!! Love the look of your pie, can imagine just how delicious it was : -)
ReplyDeleteThat pie looks very, very good... I can almost taste it! My last 7 days? Diabetes clinic with my 11 yr old daughter. My birthday (yay!) making me closer to 50 than 40 (why did I let that thought enter my head?) Organising the visit of a FANTASTIC children's author to my school. I think your littlest Miss would love her book, Milo Armadillo. And of course she was fantastic - she knits! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/milo-armadillo . Getting some BAD news about my work/life balance. Going to the theatre to see a friend in an Alan Bennett play - so impressed! Buying secondary school uniform for my eldest (only four more weeks of primary - gulp). Not writing enough of my end of year school reports. Crocheting granny heart bunting for my daughters' bedrooms. Watching you on youtube. Next 7 days? School reports.... Hope everyone in your home is well again. MsZeb
ReplyDeleteHow cool to get a lesson with Greg! Hope you got lots of tips.
ReplyDeletexx
looks scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteIf only you could hear my groan when I saw the apple tart. It looks too beautiful to eat. But then again if I had a bowl of cream it would be hard to hold me back from digging in.
ReplyDeleteIt's very cold here is SA and also lots of germs. I just recovered from a 2 week flu - lovely.
I've had a fringe - too much effort for me. I'm more of a dry naturally person and having cowlicks kinda makes one look a bit odd.
I am knitting a nanna wrap a the moment to keep chills of my shoulders when I'm at work. Otherwise plenty of reading.
Have a lovely week.
Your apple tart is seriously so beautiful! I wish I could send you some warmth, I am melting here in Hong Kong, it is so hot and humid.
ReplyDeleteYour comment "I felt swollen with inspiration but itchy with lack of time", I feel this often, and it overwhelms me.
Very post I read, I love you and your blog more and more xxBrenda
ReplyDeleteOpps, That was meant to be Every! Ha! xxBrenda
