Fifteenth

IMG_2470

Wohoo, I'm halfway through my blog-a-day month!!! To celebrate I baked us all a cake. It's chocolatey, and smoodgy and dense and goes perfectly with a bite of strawberry to cut right through the richness. Can I cut you a big chunk, or will you have a slither? Cream or ice-cream?

While you're eating I'd like to thank you so much for coming along on this January blog-a-thon with me so far. I'm almost certain that if you weren't reading, commenting, face booking and liking my posts, that I probably would have run out of steam by now. But instead I am really enjoying it.

I'm loving the fact that I am carrying my big camera around with me again, that I am thinking about what the story might be during the day, that I am documenting this time in our lives, that I am prioritising something that I want to do everyday and making time for it even when it's a struggle, that I am writing words and sentences and paragraphs, and that I am doing something creative, something that I love, every single day.

When I decided to do this I had hoped that it would help me feel creatively fulfilled no matter what I was doing with the rest of my days, that it would make me feel balanced and like I was expressing a part of myself in amongst the chaos. I am happy to announce that all my hopes have been realised.

I guess my only concern is that it's too much and too often for you guys, but I think one of the best parts of a blog is that you can skip on past it if you don't feel like it.

IMG_2477

So here's to the next fourteen posts in fourteen days.

Hopefully there'll be as much to write about and photograph. And hopefully by the time this month ends I'll be in a habit of posting often and will be able to maintain a much fuller blog life than in the past few years.

So tell me loveliest one, if you will; How often do you read my blog? Is every single day too often for you? Do you read my blog at the same time each day? Do you like it when I blog about some subjects more than others? What posts of mine do you skip on past? Do you wish that I'd post about some things more?

I guess all that's left to say is  - see ya tomorrow!

LoveLoveLove xx

(Truth - I baked this particular cake for our EOS - end of school celebration - but I would totally bake you one just like it if I could. xx)

  1. I'm loving your daily posts in January, everything about them. I'm overseas for a while and your blog helps me feel like I'm 'checking in' on Australia. Thankyou for all your words and pictures, for the effort you put in :)

  2. Some cake and cream please.
Love the balance of topics you write about and the great photographs - just keep on doing what you are doing and enjoy the most.

  3. You're in my feedly, so I read whenever you post, obviously atm daily;) Mostly around the same time I read. I'm drawn to your photos, the gentleness you share. AS I've only just found you I'm uncertain what categories you normally post about.
ps if you want more reader direction consider doing a survey I'm just finishing one and it's been so helpful in hearing from my readers. I used google forms, easy.

  4. That cake looks gorgeous and I would definitely have a slice if it could be trasported to Scotland. Love all your posts and read them all ~ keep going just the way you are. There is a good mix in your post too. Meant to leave a comment yesterday about that wonderful little spoon on your necklace ~ it's just perfect! :O)xx

  5. I'll have a large slice please, with cream - I am eating for two after all!

I read your blog whenever a post pops up in my thingy (that's the technical term right?)

I never skip a post. I like all the topics you write about. I'm a crafty crochet-y knitty mama myself so I particularly love those posts!

  6. I must eat something dark chocolatey and fruity every day! Divine cake btw. I would read your post every day. I'm interested in gardening, food, photography, sewing, knitting and crocheting, indoor/outdoor crafting. So every thing you basically talk about!

  7. Hello I have only recently rediscovered your blog from my Blogger feed. I have had a break for a few years from Blogland for one reason and another. I am loving reconnecting with old friends, although I think I only found you latterly. I only have time to catch up a few times a week but whatever appears in the feed I will read :)

  8. I just ate two pieces of the jam cake I made today with a side of cream. It's a Veggie Mama recipe & I used my friends strawberry jam she made me for Christmas. It was delicious & I'm full so I'll skip the chocolate cake for today. Next time?

I read all your posts Kate. I remember when I first found you I spent hooooooours reading your backlog. Yours is one of the handful of blogs I love from start to finish. Blog often because I miss you when you aren't around. Blog about whatever you like, it's all interesting to me. xx

  9. The more blog posts, the better! I love coming to my reader and finding it stuffed full of new blog posts to read - it's so much fun to peek into other people's lives and read their stories. Plus, it inspires me to keep writing, too.

Congratulations on reaching the halfway point! I hope you'll enjoy writing for the rest of the month, too.

  14. I check your blog everyday so I'm in heaven this month. Although I realise posting everyday would be hard to sustain, the more often the better for me. I love everything you post about and never skip over even a paragraph! :) Your photos and words are always inspiring xxx

  16. From the other side of the world in rural England, I am loving these daily posts Kate. I wouldn't dream of skipping a post, how rude! Your writing is so varied and interesting and I find your creativity so inspiring.
I'm in love with knitting and crochet as well so naturally enjoy those posts even more, as well as your recipes, all with gorgeous photos.
    Yes, see you tomorrow, Niki.

  17. I have no set routine with blogging. My average blog reading would be once or twice a week and I always seem to be on the catch-up. Sometimes I get to read blogs almost every day and be very productive in the blogosphere in a big burst and then a week or two might go by when I don't look at a computer at all because I am busy with other things. I had a long list of lovely blogs bookmarked which I work through and never miss posts from my favourite bloggers even if I am a week or more behind. Sadly this week, one of my children upset a setting on my computer and in the process of rectifying it, I lost all those bookmarks too so I will need to take time to search them out again!

  18. I've read every one of them, every day. And frankly, you're overachieving. Making the rest of us look slack.
    Shame on you! (xxxx)

  19. I read every post of yours on the day you post it. I read in the mornings, with my mug of tea. Every-day-posts are not too many for us, the readers, though it may be hard for the writer to maintain. I speak from experience [www.rurification.com]. It's hard taking and processing the pics, posting every day, and also gardening, and spinning/dyeing/weaving, and cooking/cleaning, and canning and homeschooling and.... So I'm especially appreciative of those who do post often.

  20. You have a delightful space here, I love my visits here and it's been great to come over every day.......but it's a big commitment, and I'm not sure how you're doing it as well as keeping on top of everything else! :) xxx

  23. I'm going to be so bummed when you stop posting daily haha! It's a huge job, but it must be so rewarding. I love reading them, I read them through Bloglovin and it's because of your daily posts (and my self-imposed Facebook hiatus) that I now have a lovely little bloggy read at the end of my day. Yours are my favourites - I love the crafty posts, and the garden posts... Well, all of them if I'm honest :)

  24. I don't always comment, but I do read every day - first thing in the morning, while my son is getting ready for school. I love all of your posts - sock knitting, farming, family - your photography is beautiful, and your thoughts are inspiring.

  25. I love that you've been posting daily because I love reading your blog! Your pictures are so inspiring! And I'd love the recipe to your cake - my son is turning one in two weeks and I've been on the lookout for something special and delicious :)

  31. I have been reading and enjoying your daily posts. I don't always comment, but I always read. :-). I do appreciate your commitment to posting every day. I'm lucky to post once or twice a week, my life can be fairly dull at the moment.

  32. Yes I'm enjoying your daily posts. So many of my go-to blogs have slowed to a crawl or stopped altogether. It's nice to be able to rely on finding fresh material each day.

  33. Oh my, I could never get sick of your posts! Every day is just fine with me, it's my morning treat to read them. I don't care what you talk about, it's always interesting. Keep em coming I say!! Thanks and that cake looks fab.

  34. I've been meaning to tell you yesterday already, how much I love your daily blogging. I mean, not the dailyness about it, oh well, that little pleasure every day, too, but how beautiful your posts are. Simple in some ways, but that makes them so special! Don't worry about skipping days one time but keep going to share those little treasures on your way, it's so inspiring!
    Thank you!

  35. It's been a bad year for me so far and to be honest your blog is one of the things i look forward to each day. I can't imagine you doing this everyday for an even longer period but right now, thank you. You take me away from the mundane grey life I lead here in Ireland and make me long to be craftier, even more involved in my allotment and well....to run off and get my own farm :)

  36. I'll take a slither with extra strawberries, strong soy latte and we'd be the best of friends :)
Kate I'm so pleased to read that you are feeling balanced and have your mojo back!! I think a lot of us were worried you might disappear and in a crazy cyber space a lovely 'real' space like yours (and many others I love) would be a travisty. I lost mine last year but I've rekindled too, not as often, but the process of think about blogging stories and taking photos, I feel really makes you live mindfully - by accident almost!!! And what a wonderful accident it is.
I'm a creature of habit and have a few, we actually the list is growing, blogs I read pretty much every single morning with my coffee. I just think be true to yourself and blog what you think we like as it must be working!! I must admit, with a new yarn crush, I love seeing your knitting posts but would love some crochet.....I read back through some early posts and found you had my addiction at some stage!!! I'd particularly love to know if you can crochet one of those beautiful feathers you had started knitting but never finished the dream catcher?

Now, I've gone on too long!!

    Warm regards,
    Jan x

  38. If you posted everyday, I would read everyday! Love your words, photos and inspiring vibes. Sometimes I skip a little through the knitting bits...I love it and I am in awe of it but I don't understand knitting & sewing talk! Happy Friday, can it really be Friday? x

  42. As a mum of two littles, i try and read your posts every morning with coffee in hand and a quiet house, but otherwise i find time during the day to hop on and read. I love reading about your lives together, i think it's the way you all work together with a goal, that is mainly just about family time, teaching your children about the things that really matter and the beauty in your surroundings through your photos is definately a highlight. I feel like if i ever saw you in the street i would instinctively say hello, even though i don't know you. You make us all feel like old friends!. Thanks so much for sharing your family and days with us Kate, i look forward to each blog entry. p.s on a side note, i came across you in a 'Country Style' story and just instantly said YES!! This is the life i'm searching for.... then proceeded to read your story to my husband and show him all the pics..... and randomly bring you up in conversation for the next month,,,okay it was at least two months. :) Still working on him in regards to up and shifting to a new beginnning.... sowing the seed though. :)

  43. I love your blog Kate, so I say post as often as you like, there is no such thing as too much Foxslane. Blog about whatever you like I read them all and often go away with something to think about.
    cheers Kate

  44. I usually read your post the next morning as I'm checking emails and starting my day... it's a lovely escape to the country farm life that I long for myself... and I don't skip over any of them, I enjoy the variety you post about! I had hoped to post a bit more often myself this year so you are inspiring me to take the time to do that and concentrate some effort on the things I love a bit more... Thanks x

  57. I love reading your blog every day, have done so for years, and I especially love your beautiful photography. I do particularly like posts about sewing - that's how I came to your blog in the first place - but I totally understand how life gets in the way of sewing as often as one would like to :-) I also love recipes and book recommendations - I read The Signature of All Things after you blogged about it and I loved it too. Thanks!

  58. After everything is done each day I make a sofa nest of my knitting and iPad . You are third down on. My favourites list as I read my favourite blogs each day . Third is random as my iPad has its own logic . So yes I read every day or check every day while I knit . And , I thank you for your blog :)

  59. Hi Kate - I read every single post you do! Not always straight away tho. I have certain blogs that I keep for those moments when I have a steaming cup of coffee to hand, something sweet to nibble on and at least 15 mins of children (and hubby) free time! Your blog is definitely one of those so keep posting!!!! xxx

  60. I am enjoying reading your daily posts. They always make me stop and appreciate my own simple pleasures. i blog read whenever I have a moment.

  61. I read my favourite blogs each day and as it happens you are at the top of my list. I will read however often you post. I think I enjoy your blog so much because your life is so different to mine. I just enjoy reading about what your family is up to. I also love your photography. Some recipes may be a good addition to your blog. Keep doing what you are doing.

  62. I may be a bit slack with comments, but I never miss your blog posts! They help me feel grounded, and hope that one day I'll be just as productive as you. Thank you for your choice to blog each day this month, I'll almost be sorry when this month is over! xo

  63. I catch up with blogs when I fancy a read, but with my faves am always really pleased when I find a little stack of unread posts. A big slab of cake occasionally is far better and more of a treat than a silly slither every day!
Any type of post is the best type. When bloggers write off the top of their head and you know it's what they really want to say makes for the best post I reckon. You've never written a dull one yet. And the photos are what really make this a stand-out blog. I'll be sorry when you stop daily posts. xx

  64. even if i havent read every day, i have read every post! i love your writing style, i love your photos and i've loved your daily posts!

  65. I read.....Every. Single. Day. Might not always comment, but thoroughly enjoy it. So thank You for such a beautiful blog.

  66. I love pretty much everything about your blog; the topics, the words, the photographs, the honesty. And the courage, I suppose, to put yourself out in the world in such a huge way and open yourself up to negative comments as well as all the lovely and appreciative ones. I think it takes courage, on a whole other level, to open up about the difficult times in your life and I think your ability to express the light and shade of your world so well helps me to be a little more philosophical about the light and shade of mine.

  67. Hi Kate, I love reading your blog and I check it daily- it's been so great reading everything you've been up to over the last 14 days and I NEVER get sick of it. I feel like we are friends and if I don't read what you've been doing, then I'm a bad mate! Haha!

  68. I read all of your blog posts, every single one, but I don't comment often.
I've been enjoying so many posts from your beautiful blog. I don't have a consistent blog reading schedule, but lately I've been reading blogs about once a week. I don't read your posts daily but love that when I come here once or twice a week there are several for me to read, and read them I do. I love your pictures and the way you right, and having a couple of posts to read at once is really lovely, as I can never seem to get enough of your beautiful blog.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

  69. I am getting in on this discussion WAY late in the game - but I hope you get around to my comment too =) I first started reading you blog when I was researching cross-country road trips & came across your families documented trip a couple years ago & FELL IN LOVE WITH YOU! I am in Texas so you are literally across the world from me & it is fascinating that although we are all so spread out and far apart that we still face the same struggles, delights, up, and downs in life! I know your life is no "dream" but it is a "dream" of mine to be self sufficient as you and your family are. I love reading about your girls and your garden and the fun little day to day things you all get to do together. I love your crafting (or talking about crafting) I read every day or every other day, but have been out of the loop for over a month because of not having internet - so I am playing catch up.. if I do miss a day I go hunting for those I have missed to keep up with you! Your blog inspired me to finally start my own! Just to get my words and voice out of my own head - so keep on keepin on, we love you & your little part of the world!
