The other night I told my farmer boy that what I'd really love - was a tiny hand carved spoon that I could hang from my necklace. I can't remember if it was that very same night or the next morning that he asked me to close my eyes and he pressed that little spoon into my hand.
What a sweet little thing!
What better jewel could a spoon carver's wife wish for?
Other wonderful things that have been happening in my life and our lives are;
Unexpectedly stumbling across a whole pile of my book Vantastic in the sweetest bookshop in Queenscliff, listening to Miss Indi become a better and more confident guitar player, setting up a little vintage desk in Pepper's room and watching her excitement as she set it all up, following along on farmer Bren's spoon carving love journey, taking an impromptu road-trip, spending time with farmer Bren's folks, knitting my socks and coiling my basket, long family farm walks, berry picking, salad eating...
teaching Jazzy how to use my sewing machine, eating plums fresh and warm from the trees, persevering with my book and discovering that I am finally starting to enjoy it, having a school friend over and watching our kids playing together, being in the middle of summer and having no bush-fire threat or irrigation worries due to the four inches of rain we've had since new year's, watching our first tomato ripen, face-timing my little sister on her birthday in San Fran, finding and sometimes stealing the time to blog every single day.
The most disgusting thing that's happened in my world lately took place this morning when I ran outside to the clothesline in-between rain showers to get a top off the line and stood in a pile of fresh, squishy dog-poo. Ewwww!!!!!!
I'd better go and reclaim my necklace before Miss Indi disappears with it.
I hope there's lots of wonderful in your life right now.
If you feel like it you could share a bit with us here, I'd love that!
A moment, or a taste, or an experience, any kind of wonderful will do.
Or if you'd rather share the disgusting, I'm happy with that also.
Love and kisses xoxoxoxo

Hello Emma in Austria!!
DeleteI think that for me that is exactly what life is all about.
And thank you so much but I hope Indi doesn't read this because I am trying my hardest to convince her to have a haircut before school goes back - it's been ages. xx
Oh you've been in my neck of the wood in Queenscliff! I know that very book shop. We must meet in person next time you are down this way!
ReplyDeleteToday's wonderful things: pulling eucalyptus dyed wool from my dye pot and leaving it to dry, picking blueberries and strawberries, Lily finding a four leaf clover, discovering a hidden National Trust building in Portarlington, watching our overladden peach tree ripen, swimming a km after dinner, knitting socks at midnight. xx

I have been trying out my paints from Annie Sloan that I won on a blog. Love the spoon and your blog Kate.
ReplyDeleteThat is the most adorable little spoon! :)
ReplyDeleteWe visitsed my big sister and nephews today and our was was given his first (well-loved) bike. After we had lunch and hit up the book ships in their country town we returned to our own and our boy has not been off the bike all afternoon. Tears were shed when it was time to hang up the helmet (which was worn all through dinner & bath). A happy little fella is now fast asleep, probably dreaming of his bike. Today was a good day.
ReplyDelete...so many typos! Fat preggo fingers are to blame, I swear!

ReplyDeleteToday my girls and I caught the train with a friend and her twins (born two days before my eldest) to Ballarat to see a movie before heading out for a coffee. Home to do a little weeding and watering in the vegie garden and egg collecting. About to watch a 4x4ing DVD with Jake now and dream of our next trip! Happy Friday for tomorrow! x Dre

Your tiny spoon is so sweet! I've made my first jam!! Strawberry jam, enough for three small pots. Easy, sweet, delicious and so rewarding.
ReplyDeleteIt's mid winter here in England, I baked some artisan bread today and found some pots of raspberry jam that I made last summer. Warm bread, butter and jam for lunch - that was perfect! A little taste of summer in January with a big hailtstorm raging outside. xx
ReplyDeleteI need to find me a Farmer Bren! What a guy.
