I have been experimenting a bit lately with mixing crochet and dressmaking, but usually I have a fair idea of where the crochet will sit before I start the project.
While I was crocheting this pink doily, I thought it would be bound into the neckline like this dress but considering how big it is and how little is needed for the collar, now I'm not so sure.
Maybe a pocket or cut in half as the sleeves or maybe just sewn onto the front as a detail.
Speak to me dress. How are you meant to be?

That's a great inspiration technique, hang it on the fence and consider it until 'it' hits you. Pretty dress, I predict the doily is destined as a decorative feature sewn on the lower front...
ReplyDeleteSo talented! I clicked to see the other dress you linked to and think it is sooo divinely gorgeous! i've got a feeling you'll put the lace in just the right part of the dress. Have fun. Cathy x
ReplyDeleteI've been loving the combos of the doily / dress thing you got going on. I'm sure you and the dress will figure out the best place for it.
ReplyDeletePretty colours. I like the idea of using the crochet as little frilly cap sleeves. I'm sure you will find the perfect place for it though X
ReplyDeleteIt'll be gorgeous whatever you decide.
ReplyDeleteI have that sheet...love it.
Looking pretty good so far! Great combination of colour, pattern and texture there Kate. Enjoy the process!
ReplyDeleteI don't think you should cut the doily!!! I like the idea of a pocket though...
ReplyDeleteit's looking lovely, i think pocket/s! : )
ReplyDeleteGorgeous doily there! I'm sure whatever you decide will be fabulous :) K
ReplyDeleteOh Kate your doiley came out great!! Pretty fabric, pretty sleeves it would make or all the way around to the back peter pan style collar ... hmmm pretty combo, can't wait to see what you do. Is this one using a pattern?
ReplyDeleteOh Kate what a great inspiration board you have, outside on your fence! The doily is very pretty and I can just see it edging the sleeves and perhaps the neck too. I am sure you will find the perfect place for it go on the dress.
ReplyDeleteThe beginnings of something beautiful x
ReplyDeletekate . i love your style ! fabric looks at home among the grasses
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of adding to the front as is. It looks great :)
ReplyDeleteI see the doily on the sleeve. YOu might have to make another to make it work.
ReplyDeleteOoohh it's saying pocket to me! Go figure - who new doily's could talk! Look lovely and very creative. I too love the combos your coming up with.
ReplyDeleteI if only I could crochet!
ReplyDeletelove all the pinkiness in your pics. I am sure you will find just the right spot for your doily :)
STOOOOOP! I have been scrolling down, catching up and now I need to look away quick! If truth be told, I'm heavily into some procrastination over something with a deadline and when you waft all that crochet beauty in front of my eyeballs...well...it's not like there wasn't enough distraction already...
ReplyDeleteDecisions, decisions. I love the carefree dress. It is beautiful. I would love one in black silk with white crochet if that is not too much to ask:) But maybe something different for todays dress? Looking forward to seeing what you decide.
ReplyDeleteso clever to crotchet! i tried once, what a mess! i have a thing for doily sleeves at the moment, they remind me of butterfly wings, but a collectors pocket to put all those feathers, pebbles & sand in would be fun!
ReplyDeleteOne big pocket in the middle would be great! Lined with some more fabric so like Jade said it could be for collecting goodies. And doilie sleeves, that woman is a genius. I like the sound of doilie sleves. :)
ReplyDeletePS. I love nana crochet - which my husband calls knitting! Derrr - and I don't think you are a nana at all. I think one day Cohen and I will go out, he in his pj pants and I in my 'nana shoes'! :)
I totally LOVE the idea of the crochet becoming the sleeves - would be gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Can't wait to see what happens next.
ReplyDeleteThe colours are just gorgeous and to mix crochet in is such a beautiful idea. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteSophie x
Great idea hanging it on the fence! Crochet sleeves are always cute. And I love the carefree dress with the doily around the neck line. Little crochet hem would be cute too. I see you point!
ReplyDeleteI know whatever you decide it will be gorgeous! I hope you got inside before the rain came down xox
Hmmmm....you'll figure it out!! xx
ReplyDeleteOooooooh, I am pretty sure it's saying "sleeves!".
ReplyDeleteIt is a GORGEOUS colour...! Wow!
I just love the colours and textures together. I hope the dress has spoken to you by now!@
ReplyDeletethe doily looks gorgeous! I'm on the sleeve team, the intricacy would be shown off and they say that shoulder detail is all the rage this season!
ReplyDeleteit would be sad to cut it though.
Ooh it would be a cute pocket!
ReplyDeletei love your technique for finding answers design~wise!
ReplyDeleteand i love the dress you made with the crochet features :)
Hello! Thank you ever so much for your lovely comments on my post :) I hope the dress expressed some opinions today. Some projects are so annoyingly quiet!! Katy.
ReplyDeleteWell I can hear the doily speaking , it's saying "Clare loves me "
ReplyDeletep.s. Yes, 'chopping and reattaching bits' does sound a little odd out of context...but I'm glad it intrigued you enough to have a look around!
ReplyDeleteI hope you found some inspiration, and the sandy tea wasn't too bad. The doily is a gorgeous colour.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful....
ReplyDeleteI would follow this blog just to keep up on your cute little Model!

Stop over when time permits...Love to have you!
Cough, cough, splutter - I think I had a piece of shell in my tea!
ReplyDeleteIt's a favourite recipe here too.
I hope the dress reveals it's secrets soon.
Great post, Kate. I think it's too pretty not to make a feature of sewn whole somewhere on the dress. Enjoy the tea!
ReplyDeleteThat doily is such a pretty colour. I think it will look perfect whatever way you use the doily. It's a very pretty combination you've chosen.:)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, the doily is stunning, it's going to be one amazing dress however it all goes together!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog....and Suzy Scroll-Saw cuts wooden brooches :)
Sam
It's going to look nice wherever the doily goes- love the colour
ReplyDeleteLouise xx

ReplyDeleteThe fabric is lovely and you are so clever to have made that beautiful piece of crochet too! The colour is so vibrant. I had thought pockets after reading your post, but after reading through all of the comments also love the idea of delicate, floaty sleeves. Can't wait to see what you decide...
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea for inspiration! i hope it spoke volumes to you
ReplyDeleteI love this idea of hanging something and letting it speak to you. And not rushing. This helps our creative process.
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty! I like the sound of doily sleeves. I'm sure you've already discovered what it's meant to be by now though!
ReplyDeleteHopefully we'll see you tomorrow at the market!!
