The bones of this dress are filling my mind and my creative space today.
I have been experimenting a bit lately with mixing crochet and dressmaking, but usually I have a fair idea of where the crochet will sit before I start the project.
While I was crocheting this pink doily, I thought it would be bound into the neckline like this dress but considering how big it is and how little is needed for the collar, now I'm not so sure.
Maybe a pocket or cut in half as the sleeves or maybe just sewn onto the front as a detail.
I have hung all the pieces up on the fence so I can watch them while I push Pepper on the swing and drink her sandy cups of tea. Speak to me dress. How are you meant to be?

That's a great inspiration technique, hang it on the fence and consider it until 'it' hits you. Pretty dress, I predict the doily is destined as a decorative feature sewn on the lower front...

ReplyDeleteOh Kate what a great inspiration board you have, outside on your fence! The doily is very pretty and I can just see it edging the sleeves and perhaps the neck too. I am sure you will find the perfect place for it go on the dress.

If truth be told, I'm heavily into some procrastination over something with a deadline and when you waft all that crochet beauty in front of my eyeballs...well...it's not like there wasn't enough distraction already...
ReplyDeleteDecisions, decisions. I love the carefree dress. It is beautiful. I would love one in black silk with white crochet if that is not too much to ask:) But maybe something different for todays dress? Looking forward to seeing what you decide.
ReplyDeleteso clever to crotchet! i tried once, what a mess! i have a thing for doily sleeves at the moment, they remind me of butterfly wings, but a collectors pocket to put all those feathers, pebbles & sand in would be fun!
ReplyDeleteOne big pocket in the middle would be great! Lined with some more fabric so like Jade said it could be for collecting goodies. And doilie sleeves, that woman is a genius. I like the sound of doilie sleves. :)
