I'm loving the long rows of repetitive stitches and how meditative this sort of crochet is in the hectic world I've been living in lately.
I started off creating them for the sole purpose of decorating and adding detail to the dresses I have been sewing lately. But as my fingers have been creating the stitches, I have been dreaming up all sorts of different and exciting uses.
I could wrap presents with them, add details to cushions, stitch them to booties or bibs, tie them as hair ribbons, sew them on the cuffs of cardigans and pants and in the layers of a ruffled skirt. Indi thinks the purple would look good as a spider web in a Halloween costume.
To be honest, part of me doesn't even care if they get used in a project or not, I have just been enjoying making them so much.

your photo's are fab, I love the red and purple together lovely!
ReplyDeleteWow! You inspired me! I want to make some of those beautiful trims too! :)
ReplyDeletemy favored color combo...red and purple..sweet!
ReplyDeleteOoh they're so beautiful! I would sew them to a cushion (I'm telling you this in case you were thinking 'hmm, what would Penny do?')
ReplyDeleteCreating for the sake of enjoyment is great - the rest will come!
ReplyDeleteI'm absolutely with you on the meditative effect. It makes it so enjoyable. I really love the pattern of the pink trim too
ReplyDeleteThey look awesome! I have been contemplating crocheting edges - I found an old book on it in my bookcase the other month - but every time I start to read the instructions......my mind wonders away.....
ReplyDeleteYou could sew them in rows onto a piece of white fabric and make a quilt or doona cover. I think they would look gorgeous, or even do the same for a cushion cover!
ReplyDeleteThey look so lacy and pretty and they are Red Hat society colors. Nice. They would look great on socks too to go with the dress trims.
ReplyDeleteI adore your trims Kate. What ply and fibre type do you use?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colours!! what yarn do you use? the only crochet ply I can find (aside from lurvly red) is in various shades of Nanna Nastiness.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate - thanks so much for popping over to my blog. I had such a lovely day in Daylesford on Sunday and it was ended perfectly with a visit to your lovely farm shop. It is so nice to have beautiful organic eggs on toast!
ReplyDeleteI also feel lucky to have seen this lovely trim in the flesh (or should that be in the 'cotton'?) when you were working on it the other day. I love your many ideas for its uses too!!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous!! One day I will do this...!
ReplyDeleteYour crochet is lovely, what great colours. Since I've just been teaching myself to crochet I've found myself doing the same thing, making little bits and pieces with no particular use, but potential for lots! It certainly is relaxing...
ReplyDeletethe best sort of crafting I think Kate where it's so enjoyable. And they are so beautiful, whatever you end up doing with them, or just as they are. x
ReplyDeleteAny craft that brings joy is great craft. They look wonderful which is an added bonus :)
ReplyDeleteThey remind me of pretty pieces of colourful coral. Lovely crocheting Kate.
ReplyDeleteI have never crocheted trim, but it looks like such a satisfying work. I love all the ways you could make use of it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE them...hey have you go a light box? Pic's look great!

Oh I love these Kate! I wonder if you use particular patterns or do you make them up yourself? I'd love to do some gorgeous trims like these for some dresses!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love how one project organically turns into another.
ReplyDeleteYour crochet work here reminded me of my Grandma's work - so lovely and delicate. I think anything that makes a girl think of her grandma must be brilliant!
ReplyDeleteOh & Wonderful vibrant thread choices.
Ah yes! It's the process not the product! But the product so far is pretty darn delicious!
ReplyDeletethis would make the most special gift wrap ever!
ReplyDeleteit looks gorgeous.
glad to hear that you're getting some meditative value too :)
wow, you have done some greta hooking there. it looks amazing. your stitches are so fine and perfect. my advice to your family would be "don't stand still for too long or you may find yourselves bound in red and purple lace
ReplyDeletePhew, that's alot of comments to scroll through! Your camera is doing some great work Kate, as are you by the looks of things. For some reason I'm seeing those trims as hair decoration...wouldn't they look pretty? xo

Clare
lovely trims and lovely pics!!
ReplyDeletecrochet really isn't my thing><
i tried to learn from my mum..but failed miserably....
Lovely colours and gorgeous trim! Heres the ponder though, can I make this while watching "lark rise to candleford' or does it need all concentration? Because it looks like all concentration to me! Can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteFab....I agree making things you love is fun enough...The fact that they become used in another project is just icing on the cake :)
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely Kate I wish I could crochet as well as you as I'm thinking that purple would be a perfect collar for an unfinished dress in my UFO's. Glad you are enjoying the process. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Kate, really inspiring. Think I'll go dig out my (attrocious) attempts at crochet and try again!
ReplyDeleteKate, they are just divine!! Love them. They made me think of coral... they'd make a wonderful arts piece I think :) K
ReplyDeleteYou are right, it does not matter where they end up, they are just beautiful to look at. Thanks so much for dropping past Beach Vintage.

Beautiful trims -I wish I could crochet like that! The enjoyment is best in the process.
ReplyDeleteWonderful work!
ReplyDeleteI am happy with your visit.
Have a nice weekend.
Hugs,
Sônia Maria
What lovely ruffles. The purple on wound around the bobbin made me think of a fancy old-fashioned and elegant skirt!
ReplyDeleteIt was really lovely to meet you last weekend. The bean was greatly enjoyed by uber goober, too! And us - it meant she was far less snarky for the next 15 minutes! Which was lovely. I suspect we'll be back as often as possible from now on - I've discovered a rather intense affection for Mount Zero olives that will need to be satisfied on a regular basis!! So hopefully I'll see you there again before too long. Anna x
Beautiful work! Again!
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that you already have so many ideas for these gorgeous pieces?
I have a huge favour...as you are a natural sewing Queen could you take alook at my latest post and give me some advice? It would be greatly appreciated!

I'm thinking that they'd look simply ace...IN MY HOUSE!!! I loved the 'sleeves' on the dress (from a previous post) and am now thinking I need to learn to crochet (after I learn to knit - & finish my first knitting project).. Peta
