She collects sea shells by the sea shore.
She listens with amazement at the rush of swirling air of the beach that is coming from her shell by the sea shore.
We all love a treasure hunt by the sea shore.
She likes mother of pearl shells. She likes the smooth rainbow of colours and dreams of finding a pearl one day by the sea shore.
He has time to dream and plan a mobile made from white shells with holes in them found by the sea shore.
She loses track of time and distance on a walk with her Mum and comes home with sore legs and a bucket full of treasures from the sea shore.
And she (I) adores cowrie shells. She can't help but pick them up and admire their patterns and shapes. She dreams of finding a large dark one with white spots one day by the sea shore.
We fill our hands and our pockets with sandy treasures by the sea shore.
We collect greedily, hungrily....and then, after a while....we drop a lot of sea shells for others to find and use as habitat by the sea shore.
And she, my big girl, spends hours soaking and washing and rinsing and cataloguing the shells. It makes me so proud when people walk past to ask and admire them and listen as she tells her stories and answers their questions.Thank you for a wonderful time 80 Mile Beach. We feel beachy and sandy and are enjoying the clinking sound the shells make in their box as we travel to the next sea shore.

When my daughter was small we went to a beach in scotland, while she collected shells I placed a small pink stone bracelet under a stone, then tried to direct her to it. She thought it was a mermaids and even at 9 still talks of the mermaid that lost her bracelet. Happy collecting. Sarah & Izzy
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful photos! Takes me back to my regular childhood holidays to Exmouth where we always camped with family in a secluded area of the Exmouth Gulf. My favourite shells were always the Cowries too. I found a tiny one once that was still alive, and it was brightly coloured and just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteKate, 80Mile Beach was one of our favourite spots in WA! And 12 months later we still haven't constructed our shell mobile yet! Some of the shells we collected were posted home to our Grand Daughter and they are still amongst her most favourite treasures.
ReplyDelete80 Mile Beach is probably the only beach in northern WA where shell collecting is legal. So enjoy while you can! Stupendous Pics. Keep safe.
Ah, and I was so sure the shore at Broome had her magic spell wrapped about your ankles and that is where you would stay. So...heading south...Wait till you see the flowers at Kalbari!

Ahhh.... Fabulous, Kate. That last picture looks like my kitchen table, only a little more exciting. There's been much enthusiasm about seashells here of late too. ReplyDeleteIf you want to see her with a HUGE beaming smile, stop at Shell Beach just near Monkey Mia - no sand, just tiny tiny shells and they are gorgeous. Take slip-ons/thongs with you so that little feet aren't cut up.

I have seashells spilling over my front stairs (it's true) i have collected so many at the beach over the years, and we've made many a shell mobile with them. Most recently we mixed shells with beads and they now hang from the frangipani tree in the front yard (I should blog that!) See if you can collect some driftwood to tie your shells to. I do that and it really adds to the effect. have another wonderful day exploring our precious country. Jane x
