On a sunshiney morning.

A couple of days I ago I was reading a photography tutorial that encouraged it's readers to take photos every single day. To carry their cameras where ever they went. And to photograph their every day. Their usual. Their nothing special.

This was our Tuesday morning.

We sat outside in the almost spring sunshine and sorted seeds. She caught the sunlight in her hair. We stepped out the size of the new green house. We watered the hothouse. She watered into the window onto the kitchen floor (oops!). We listened to our new/old Play School record about farms. We laughed about living on a farm and listening to a farm. We heard recorded chickens and real life chickens. She played with farmer Liam's dog Gem and took a pretend trailer ride. We had a snack and then she told me stories while we waited for the boys to finish collecting the eggs. When they had, we joined them in the shed for the egg packing. She sat on my knee in the dark room and we watched all the eggs roll past lit up from underneath so we could check each one for cracks. She made up funny little games and competitions while we were working. She sometimes let me win but then she'd change the rules so she'd win more. She declared herself the champion. We sorted and packed 213 dozen eggs which made us believe that spring was really springing. Hooray!! She wore her vintage button brooch that came with a bunch of sock monkeys all the way from Jessica in Hamburg in Germany. She sang and danced wherever we went.

We had a gorgeous morning, nothing special but special all the same.  The sun was shining and I tried to kiss her all the time. The outside air felt fresh in our lungs. And I felt full of plans and inspiration for the coming season.

Then it was time to come in for lunch and to write a seed order.

That's us, what have you been up to?
What would you do with a crate of lemons?
Do you carry your camera with you wherever you go?

I'm off to check the salt situation for a bit of preserving.

Later potata. x

  1. Beautiful Kate...this is all the good stuff rolled into a blog as usual!

Major news from my little 'patch' today, tiny tomato seedling have just emerged in our little hot house. I do carry a camera a lot and the before mentioned tomato seedlings have been captured.

A lemon pudding or two perhaps? x

  2. The littlest gardener's morning was full and happy I think. With a crate of lemons I would make lemon butter, lemon madiera cake, lemon drink, ice cube trays of lemon juice to freeze and lemon meringue pie...pretty standard stuff but yum!

  6. If I had a crate of lemons the first thing I would do is make a very easy Lemon Self Saucing pudding. So lemony and delicious with lashings of cream.

  7. I frequently end up with loads of lemons and I generally just squeeze and freeze. But the are excellent cleaners, just slice the end off, dip in bicarb and scrub. When the lemon looks a bit gritty, slice off the used bit and continue cleaning. Works better than any product you can buy.

  10. Lovely Photos!! especially the first one with a hint of smile on pepper's face! beautiful!! I don't carry my camera but my phone is a good substitute for outdoor photography.. If I had a crate of lemon, I wud give it to my mom to make pickle for me, one with salt and the other sweet and sour.. my mouth is already watering thinking of the sweet and sour taste and the smell of preserved pickle..

  11. Lovely! :)
This is one of the things I don't liek about our DSLR... it's harder to just pull out and use anywhere! Especially when I have enough 'luggage' with two little ones in tow! Love the idea of photographing everyday though. I try to keep the camera on the bench ready for opportunities at home! This looks like a lovely morning! :) Might document our outside time tomorrow! THanks for sharing!

  18. Lemon flavoured mojitos . All I think about night and day is how much I would love a mojito, come to think of it they don't even have lemon in them but I still want one.

I should take my camera out more but its so easy with my phone. But I do like to take nice photos of Busy and her cuteness. Your pics of pepper are lovely.

  19. It's great advice. I should do that but I'm sure they wouldn't look as gorgeous as these beautiful pics! :)
I love lemons... love them in drinks, as a lemon curd, but especially as a dessert... lemon meringue hmmmm :)

  20. It sounds like spring has reached your farm making you very happy. I love it when the sun shines and doesnt burn, just followed with a slight breeze! Lemons are marvellous for lemon meringue pies, lemon butter or lemon rinds preserved as they are supposed to add great flavours for recipes. I know that I saw that on a tv show but cant remember which one.

  21. I love the comment "nothing special but special all the same". I is where the magic happens, in our every day.
I take pictures everyday, but not with a 'real' camera , but with my iphone {i'm saving up for an slr}...
with a crate of lemons i'd make: lemon pie, lemonade and gin and tonics. xxx

  25. Lovely photos.
I'm one of those people that forget the camera OFTEN. It spends a lot of time collecting dust on the fridge.
Must make more of an effort!

  32. I bought a little camera that I can carry with me everywhere...so much better than lugging a huge DLSR around. If I had a crate of lemons...I'd try and make lemonade...and save a few to eat just "as is".

I do read every single comment you leave and appreciate it very much, but I should let you know that I can be a wee bit on the useless side when replying to comments, that's just me, everyday life sometimes gets in the way....so I'll apologise now, just in case.
