By the time I had gotten them all to school, run into some more problems and my morning chores, I felt as grey as the day.
I announced to my farmer boy that I was writing the day off and was going to have a shower and wash my hair. I kinda like the shower cry. Its soothing and cleansing. All that warm water.
But he didn't let me. He told me I should go and sew instead.
I know he knows me best so I listened and I did.
I gathered some op shop cord that was grey as the day.
And I cut and sewed.
And then I crocheted.
I used a 2.5mm hook and some fine cotton.
Pattern details Ravelled here.
And when I ended up with a dress I was glad that I had.
Miss Indi said it looks exactly like me. She said she could even see herself wearing a dress like this when she is old. Miss Jazzy asked me to make her one the same. Miss Pepper said she loved it and loves me. And my farmer boy was pretty happy that I was smiling again. He said I might have finally fixed the looking pregnant in dresses I make issue. And he said he loved it.
I'm really happy with it. It's comfortable and tough. Perfect for a farmer girl.
And I love it with my OK OK tights.
And speaking of tights, without further ado, the winners of the OK OK tights are Jules, Frances, Tricia and Ellie.
Congratulations girlies. Email me your postal deets and I'll get them in the post asap.
Thanks so much Emina for the awesome giveaway and tights. I adore mine. xx
And thanks Farmer Bren for humouring me with the photos on the stump in the middle of a chook move. xx
I hope you have a wonderful week.
I hope your sun shines.
I hope you have a nice dress to wear and some fun things to do.
I hope you know how to turn your grey days into blue.
What works for you?
OK, I'm off to squeeze some juice with my smallest.
And then maybe I'll hook up another collar, I'm a bit addicted now.
Big love. xx
Love the dress, especially with the orange tights!
ReplyDeleteI think some ladies dresses in your shop would be exciting x x :)
ReplyDeleteYAAAY! Thank you :-)
ReplyDeleteEmailing you my postal deets right now.
I love your frock.
ReplyDeleteI love that Bren sent you to sew.
I love a shower cry too
I love that for me a bit of crafting and sitting in the sun can usually slap me out of a mood , but the moods are hard at the moment. xx
Love the dress with the tights...great photos! Too clever! Fresh air and a walk around my vegetable garden normally turns my grey moments into blue :)
ReplyDeleteA sweet little dress to put a smile back on your dial. The collar is divine as are those tights. Hopefully no more grumbles for today.
ReplyDeleteKate this is so lovely, and I love the your farmer boy sent you to sew! Today to lift my spirits I cooked up a delicious soup for our dinner and indulged in a Country Style mag, it's been so long since I bought a mag! Now off to walk with my little guy and his grade to the supermarket..x
ReplyDeleteYour dress is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI miss sewing clothes. Will have to get onto it soon.
what a great dress, the collar is the perfect thing to soften the grey cord. and the tights add a shade or two of awesome. :)sarah
ReplyDeleteWhat a super cute dress Kate. Yes it does suit you so much and it looks great with the bright tights too! Glad to hear that your day brightened up, and ouch to falling in that nasty bush!
ReplyDeletesweet dress, looks great with the tights.
ReplyDeleteI love that the collar and grey cord make it a little bit old worldy but the length makes it fun and modern. You are amazing to be able to whip something up like that. I sew for my kids but every time I sew for myself it ends up not so good!
ReplyDeleteThe grey dress is so you! It works so well with the gumboots and tights (too bad I forgot to enter that giveaway).
ReplyDeleteI too have had a few grey days lately. I like to blame it on the weather. Some days it feels like everything is against you and all you want to do is cry under the covers (or shower in your case). Totally agree with your crafting therapy. It really does work even if you start out not really feeling like it.
Oh, I'm so missing sitting at my sewing machine and doing some making for me. The skirt and now dress that you've made in the past week are simply lovely. Isn't it wonderful when our men know us so well, and it's good when we listen to them!
ReplyDeleteI love this little photo shoot - you do look happy, and very very cute in your new dress. And your girls are sweet.
And and and.... That's me! I won a pair of tights. Yah. Can't believe it. I never win anything! Oh, I hope Winter stays a little bit longer so I can wear them. Emailing you now with my address.
Here's to only grey dresses and no more grey sky days for a while. xxx
Just gorgeous. All of it. xx
ReplyDeleteAh, so cute! Love that collar and the pearly button.
ReplyDeleteI accidently stumbled onto your Pin-boards yesterday, nice. (I'm there as Boekiegirl :-)
Your dress looks gorgeous. I especially love the collar. xxoo
ReplyDeleteSounds like your Monday started a little like mine! I did the school run then blew some cobwebs away by listening to an audiobook while pounding the pavement, rounded off with a visit to Miss 6's class to help with reading. That always makes me smile...even if it is because I know I can leave after half and hour!!!
ReplyDeleteThis dress is so cute with the gorgeous collar -
ReplyDeleteand loving the grey and cream together!
You guys have brilliant backdrops for your photos -
what a beautiful place to live!x
You're such a clever cookie! I have not been feeling the blog love at my end for a while, but coming to visit you makes me feel inspired xxxxx

ReplyDeleteThat is divine, Kate. That collar...swoon.
ReplyDeleteThough I did laugh at Miss Indi saying "when she gets old"...Gotta love kids when they say things like that.
Gorgeous Kate & the perfect antidote dress.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great example of how doing something creative can be the perfect cure-all for the blues!
ReplyDeleteAnd a beautiful dress to show for it.
Hi Kate! This dress is so amazing! I'm glad it turned your day around. Nothing like a bit of creation to soak up the sads. ^_^
ReplyDeleteI think this is my favourite yet of your rad projects! Really gorgeous lovely xxx
ReplyDeleteI love that dress...go you! And you rock it with the stripy top, tights and gumboots too. the collar is genius. I wish my attempts at sewing therapy had worked out half as good...i finished the lisette portfolio tunic last night (in grey!) and whatever could go wrong, did. Sobering for an old pro like me! x
ReplyDeleteLove it.....it is so you and the collar is the sweetest. x
ReplyDeleteGrey dress, Hunter green Wellingtons and yummy orange tights=cute combo :-)!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE that dress. But am more impressed by the longevity of that green striped top!! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat an outfit - super cute Kate.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate
ReplyDeleteHave only just discovered your blog - sorry! Really enjoying it. Have been reading some of your older entries where you've made dresses for your girlies in florals with mismatched sleeves and several fabrics for the main body - do you ever make these for big people ie 40-somethings?!! Not sure if you've got a shop or how to find a link to it.
Many thanks
Sally (UK)
