2014 - so much potential

IMG_7704aIMG_7692
So here we are, at the end of the first day of the brand new year, and while I am completely ready for it, I feel like I still haven't articulated, or thought through, exactly what I am hoping for, for 2014. I don't have resolutions of how I want to behave,  I haven't decided if there is a project I'd like to do a bit of every single day (365 project), and I don't have one word to describe how I want to tackle the months to come.

So I've started the year by keeping my options open.

We spent the first moments of the shiny new year with beautiful friends and family. (Potential resolution to do more of this?)

We made the most of a dreary wet day by spending time together as a family cooking and eating and watching a movie. (Potential resolution to positively frame difficult situations?)

I made the most of my moments. (Potential resolution stolen off my Mum, to waste less time?)

I wrote 750 words in 750words.com. (Potential 365 or 180 or 75 project?)

I crocheted four squares of what could be a blanket, a cushion or bunting. (Potential 365 project?)

I thought about SIMPLIFY and GROW and EMBRACE and CELEBRATE. (Potential words to carry me through the year?)

And I thought a lot about the things that make me feel and act like a better person; Like drinking two litres of water daily, regular exercise, being more organised, dancing, having regular off-farm time, and date nights with my farmer boy. (Potential personal practices that should be personal laws?)

I'm so excited for this year. To see where it takes us and what we can achieve. I feel like something big is going to happen. I have no idea what it will be or even what I would like it to be, but I can feel it in my belly and it's exciting.

Hooray for the potential of the new year!!

Big love and wishes for the sweetest and happiest and most wonderful year for you.
Are you all organised with your resolutions and stuff, or are you keeping your options open and hoping for the best?

xx

  2. I love this! I picked one word "deliberate" which I think is similar to what you write about as well...whatever it is we choose to do in 2014, let's make sure we're concious of it and it fits in with our overall view on what we want life to look like! Here's wishing you 2014 filled with health, happiness and abundance!

  5. I'm such a floozy I know I wouldn't be able to stick to a word and I wish I was less of a keep-options-open-type but I do love all that idea of POTENTIAL. Happy 2014s xx

  8. I'm like you, no resolutions or little word or anything yet. But I do have some vague ambitions to do better this year! Wishing you every happiness, success and contentment for 2014.

  10. I don't make NYE resolutions - I don't like all those pressures to perform and achieve. I would feel guilty when In December I would realise I had stopped thinking about them at the end of January. I like the achievable ones "Make something every day" and "Be happier". I like your potential NYE resolutions and Happy new year to you x

  11. I'm not a resolution kind of girl, far too much pressure and I always fall off the wagon.
This year though I've decided it will be the year of me, so my word is RESPECT. For myself, and everyone that I encounter, and for the world around me. Just quietly I'm also trying to remember, progress not perfection.
I enjoy your blog and look forward to whatever you choose to share in this new year.
I made a cushion cover out of pattern, but I made mine hexagonal, I was going to gift it to my bestie but i'm loving it on my bed. Guess I'll just have to make her something else.

    cheers Kate

  12. Love how you've captured those thoughts that come with the "freshness" of a new year x

  13. Happy New Year Kate! I wrote a long stream of consciousness list of all the things I wanted to feel and do this year...then I shut the book, and I won't revisit them again. For me, resolutions are about getting in touch with how I want to feel in the coming year, rather than things I want to achieve. I'm keeping it open too :)

  15. I don't think it's actually hit me yet... For the first year ever I haven't felt that sense of a new beginning - how strange! I hadn't even realised until I read your post ;) Funny. So happy that you have that feeling of potential - it's what the new year should be all about. I need to reboot I think ;) Thanks for the reminder Kate. Kx

  16. I plan to worry less about all the things I should, or should not, be doing, and just live and love my life. Simple.

  17. Lovely potential resolutions. Enjoying the time with my family has to be my no 1 at this stage - time goes so quickly and sometimes I do wonder whether mine was spent wisely doing the important stuff like playing with my kids rather than doing the housework! Have a wonderful 2014. Emma x

  19. I'm not into resolutions. Seems nobody ever keeps them and just makes one because its the thing to do on January 1. If you would like to change, don't wait for a particular date, just start now. (I know I'm too cynical - maybe something for me to try and change?) I did choose a word for this year, AWARE, which doesn't require much actual change, just altering my thought process a bit. (wrote more about it on my blog post for yesterday) Sounds like you have ideas in mind that will change your life for the better - more date nights - sounds good! :)

  20. I'm excited for you Kate, May your year be wonderful!
I've been doing bron's 'one word' the last couple of years rather than a resolution as such, and it's been amazing how it inspires me and gives me focus to try and achieve it..though not off to the greatest start so far..x

  21. Sounds like a great way to start the new year. I'm being fairly open to whatever 2014 brings, embracing the changes which will come for our family.
Just found you through the Country Style article featuring your family - beautiful read.

  22. Happy New Year to you Kate and lots of fun adventures. For the last few years I just choose a word to guide me through the year instead of making any resolutions - the one for this one will be gratitude.

  23. Can't wait to read what you get up to this year! No real resolutions for me this year... just to try and suck up all the year has to offer! Happy New Year!

  24. Happy New Year, Kate - I know what you mean about the potential of 2014 - a few weeks before the end of December I wasn't terribly optimistic about the new year, I just wanted the old one to be done and dusted thankyouverymuch! It was a pretty crap year at times, especially towards the end. But now, with some sleep and general rest and some time to do things I love just because I can - I feel a whole lot more optimistic about 2014. I've got a good feeling about this one!

  25. Love this post - really resonates with me as sometimes we are so busy planning and striving, we forget to enjoy the everyday wonder of simple things and good fun. Happy 2014 - I feel the potential too! :)

  26. I dont do resolutions but this year I am promising I wont get pregnant ( 2 babies in 13 months is quite enough!). I do have goals though. Nothing big or extravagant just little things to give me a bit more balance in my day to day life. Balance is hard to find for me & it's what I need most ( except sleep, man do I need some sleep!)
I do love the feeling of a new year, so fresh & full of possibilites xxx

  27. I adore this. 2014 I resolve to remember all things are possible. As cheesy as it sounds, it's helpful to remember to always stay open to the excitement that the year can bring.Happy New Year Kate. X

  28. Hi Kate, Just found your blog - I have 3 girls too! Sounds like a good start to the New Year to me. I love January, full of possibility and a strange urge to sort things out and tidy up (the latter never lasts too long!). Best wishes for 2014. Claire x

  29. I take deep breaths and then wonder, and then more deep breaths and more wondering. Is it good to just drop plans and resolutions and let the excitement unfold? Is it better to set goals? A balance of the two? More deep breaths, more wondering… ♥♥♥

Thanks so much for stopping by...

I do read every single comment you leave and appreciate it very much, but I should let you know that I can be a wee bit on the useless side when replying to comments, that's just me, everyday life sometimes gets in the way....so I'll apologise now, just in case.
