falling off the mower

IMG_1781

Yesterday I fell off our ride on mower so today I'm starting my day off very slowly.

I didn't actually fall off but rather jumped off when I thought it was going to roll ontop of me. And actually my farmer boy says it wasn't going to roll on me, but it certainly felt like it at the time.

Looking back I know that I was being silly. I was in a rush to finish the mowing before school pick up time and instead of leaving the steep, hilly bit for the whipper-snipper, I thought I'd be smart and get it done there and then. Turns out I was not so smart. I realised I was going up the bank at too sharp an angle, I got too scared to go backwards but tried anyway, slowly, I felt like the mower tipped a bit, I slammed on the brakes, straddled it in a funny way jumping off (not haha funny) and managed to batter and bruise my legs and pride and confidence in the process. Ouchy.

I'm fine. The mower is perfectly fine. It's probably not a bad thing to happen to me at the beginning of mowing season. But this morning I'm feeling a bit achy, and instead of rushing out there to set up fences for a chook move tomorrow morning, I'm crocheting a couple of rows of Miss Pepper's stripy birthday present and writing to you.

How are you?
Are you in a rush or being gentle on yourself?

Take it easy and travel safely my friends, we'll get there in the end.

Love Kate xx

  3. Oh no. I hope you recover soon. That sort of thing twists you up in all sorts of ways and you slowly discover the aches over several days!

I am rushing, but I wish I could take it slow. I'm working fulltime and trying to complete an economics assignment for my part-time MBA (which is absolutely kicking my butt) and my Mum is undergoing treatment for stomach cancer so my mind is all over the shop. I would love to have a week where I can just sit and knit and spin.

    Enjoy your quiet morning. xx

  4. Ouch indeed. I hope those bruises fade fast and the lawn grows slowly.

  6. ouchywawa! Hope the crochet helps heal you... Arnica Cream is a terrific natural product for bruises and sprains (martin & pleasance brand is the best I've found and if keep it in the fridge the cooling helps too!)

and I'm always racing between the rush and being gentle bit - finding the balance is a lifelong task I reckon!!! :-) x

  7. I'm in too big of rush too - kids, working fulltime with a bit of overtime and studying for uni exam in 2 weeks and am on a school board too and entering the stupid time of the school year too. Just scanned 10,000 books at school in stocktake too with a few hundred to look for... look after yourself on the mower. Oh to not feel guilty doing something with yarn... desperate to do another project but study, study, blah, blah.

  8. hi kate! i am lucky number 2070 (follower) i hope that lovely crochet is helping your boo boos to feel better! one of the luxury's of growing older is not having to rush as much (except for the time recently where i left my phone on the virgin america counter in jfk and didn't notice till it was time to board. i rushed then.) but really, please be careful around large scary mowers, i will worry about you!

  9. It must be the week for falling over.
I slipped on a wet floor (my own fault for washing it) because I was too lazy to walk around to the dry bits and decided to walk over the wet bits. One step and I was sprawled on the wet floor like a starfish. Classy!
Hope you are back on that mower soon and showing it who's boss!

  11. Sorry to hear about your mower accident, but at least you (and the mower) are ok. I am taking it easy today, as I was up in the night with a stomach bug. So just a restful day, apart for spraying antibacterial spray all over the house!

  12. I probably would have jumped off too. I'm glad you ( & the mower) are ok.
Today I had plans to go to Spotlight to find fabric to make a tablecloth & visit the library to find some new cookbooks. The babies had other plans so we stayed at home got the washing done, played blocks, ate leftover snitzels & lentil patties & I painted a clock. It's as slow as it gets these days but was nice.
    Take care Kate xx

  13. That doesn't sound fun, but is a good excuse to relax for a bit. Miss Pepper's gift is lovely. I love those bright colors!

  14. Your farmer boy might say you were fine but you didn't feel safe, and having a ride on mower roll on or over you would not be good! Glad you survived to tell the tale, but blah to the bruises and the battered self-confidence.

  15. Hope you soon recover - in every way. It's nice nice falling off something. I fell off a chair at the top of our stairs and was very bruised. Your crochet looks good - something nice to come out of your fall.

  17. I fell recently too, only to learn I don't bounce so well these days. I was achey all over in places I didn't even hit. It hurts to get old.

  18. It is never nice with a scare, I bloody hate them. Like just before you slip down the stairs. Have done that several times when I am around stairs.
I am deffinitely taking it slow. Have had to because of some illness.
I am pretty good at it in fact, but I can see how people around me rush far too much and don't remember to look after them selves. It is so important to looks after oneself...
    Take care:)

  19. My goodness! I hope your heart rate has steadied by the time you read this and that your bruises haven't got too angry by now (they tend to develop over a few days). I don't know much about ride-on mowers but I hope they are not as dangerous as quad-bikes. Your 'near miss' sounds serious. Be careful! Thank God you are okay.
