off

So my computer is not happy and is going off to the fixer-upperer's.

It's a bit funny how stressy the thought of being without her has gotten me considering how stressful her behaviour has been lately. Naughty Miss Mary Mac.

It's made me think back to a time before we had Indi, probably about 14 years ago, when my farmer boy told me he was buying us a computer for our home. For real, I challenged him, what on earth for? In my head a computer was just another one of those boy toys, like the frisbee and the stunt kites and the mountain bike. What on earth would we possibly do with one at home??

Hilarious, I know.

And I'm probably the most computer addicted in this entire house. In fact I recently added the house rule that anybody who has written a book is allowed to look at their computer at dinner time. Makes sense, no?

So here we are 14 years later and the last laugh is at me. No computer for five or six days. Hopefully, all going to plan.

If you want to contact me text me, facebook me, tweet me, instagram comment me, or you could even old school call me. I might even answer.

If I get completely desperate and computerless, I might try to remember my passwords and usernames and hack into the big Imac on the other side of the table. I could possibly return emails from there, if I can work out how.

Or I could use this time to detox and get out there amongst it.

I'm not sure how long I'll last without.
Could you do it?
Have you done it?
How long's the longest you can go without checking your facebook/emails/ravelry/pinterest/blog reader/photo editor.......?

I might see you spoon.

I might not.

Ciao

My place and yours - Blog H.Q.

My blog H.Q. is at the kitchen/dining room table, down the far end away from sticky fingers. The computer used to be down the other end of the house in the study, but I found I would only check on it every few days. Now it is in the 'cockpit' of the house that isn't a problem any more.

There's my current pot holder in progress. There's usually another one underneath my laptop as that is my way of blocking them. Can get a bit wobbly when typing though.

There are always school notices and bits and pieces around, but this morning there's also the Saturday morning garage sale treasures.

A box full of tea spoons from a deceased estate for my sister Emily who collects them.

They are pretty beautiful to look at and imagine someone's great adventures travelling around Australia collecting them from places they visited. They are all made in Australia too.

These four are my favourites. From left Deloraine is near where my parents live, Castlemaine & Malden is the closest I could find to here, I love Strahan's dangly anchor and Burnie's apple.

Some lovely old linen.

And a tin of buttons.

When I walked down the hill to this garage sale a woman called out that she'd wondered if I would turn up as there'd been another blogger who'd already been earlier, but these were perfect for me. Bren loved this story. He said my blogutation had preceded me.

I have no idea if these buttons are old or precious but they are already being picked over and threaded and glued onto cards and presents for my birthday in a few days time. It looks like these buttons came just in time as I have a handmade cards and presents only rule this year.

Thanks Ninon for this week's theme and to Pip for hosting the big list.

Bibs and Boots

My computer died yesterday.
It was a week old and has to go back to the shop tomorrow.

I have had to wait in line all morning to use the family computer.
Aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Friends of ours had twins a week ago.
A girl and a boy, Sasha and Zac.

I've made them a bib and a pair of boots each.

It's been so nice to be back on the sewing machine again.
Crochet has taken up all my creative energy for a while now.

While on the machine last night I had a few ideas about combining the two (crochet and sewing). We'll see where that goes.

It felt comfortable making these two very familiar patterns.

I loved the opportunity to make the masculine and feminine versions.

It'll probably be a few weeks until I get to meet these two tiny bundles of joy but I can hardly wait. I can also hardly wait to see their parents who I have known for years and years but never as a Mum and a Dad.

These will go in the post in the morning and hopefully my computer will be back before too long and I'll be able to see what this post looks like on a proper screen without lining up for the pleasure.
