I started this dress at 11 o'clock last night after driving home from a few days at the beach, feeding the girls and putting them to bed.
I made this dress instead of unpacking the car, cleaning up from dinner, searching for school uniforms and shoes, relaxing on the couch with Bren, pulling out jars to sterilise before this week's jam making, cleaning out the stinky fridge, writing lists for the week to come, going to bed or doing anything else remotely useful or productive.
I made this dress in the most impatient manner. When seams were wrong I cut them apart with scissors, I did not measure or pin or baste or press. About half way through, I even admitted to myself that it was a disaster and that no one would ever wear this dress, but I continued on rather than doing any of the things I should have been doing.
I am the procrastinating queen.
The Silly Billy dress was made out of an op shopped sheet. To check out some more great op shop finds click on over to Sophie's.
Thanks so much to those that have been so generous, encouraging and kind. Thanks also to those who have mentioned my auction on their blogs to help spread the word.
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
Oh your post made me laugh! I often do silly things like that. I love the sheet! Pepper was very patient to be cut out of the dress. How cute! Oh and your bunny is so delightful! What a wonderful thing to do. Thanks for playing along.
ReplyDeleteSophie x
So glad to see you have sewing disasters too!! Luckily though it was a sheet and you'll have plenty of fabric left over to start again!
ReplyDeleteUmmm .... put it down to a learning experience.
ReplyDeleteThe big test is ... what will you learn?
Andi :-)
You crack me up. I was wondering what you were busy doing! My favourite shot was the one from the back. Laughing with you not at you
ReplyDeleteOMG that is hilarious, I laughed out loud.
ReplyDeleteat some time in our lives we all face disaster. So it is with this dress. Too funny.
ReplyDeleteI just laughed out loud so hard that I snorted!!! Very amusing.
ReplyDeleteGreat auction too... I see your Mum currently has the highest bid - so sweet - but I do hope someone pips her at the post ;)
[I'm afraid I'm out of the running though :(]
Ahh, Kate, you are not alone in your personality traits! How familiar you 'sewing technique' sounds to me.
ReplyDeleteToo cute..Love that you showed it on her..I wouldn't have the guts :P
ReplyDeleteI think this would be a common occurance amongst us creative types... i know I can be the same- if I don't get the idea out of my head and made then i can think or do nothing else until its done.
ReplyDeleteGoodness I don't even know how you got that dress on her! What happened to the sleeve at the back? Too funny, but it must have been so frustrating at the time. Glad you didn't cut one of her pigtails off by mistake, they are too cute.
ReplyDeleteLove your bunny but I'm afraid I can't be the winner of him. I'm sure someone really special is going to love him to bits. Good luck with the auction.
that is the funniest, sorry. lol
ReplyDeleteLove how your little one is trying it on...those cubby legs are adorable...and good luck with the rabbit...amazing job and bidding by everyone!
ReplyDeleteI tried to comment earlier but my stoopid computer was being stoopid...
ReplyDeleteFantastic. Really. I love everything about this post - you made me LAUGH this morning m'lady! Especially the bit about having to cut your poor dear out of the dress, and the pictures... and everything...!
I am sorry to tell you however, that you are not, as you seem to think, the procrastinating queen. Oh no.
That is my title and I challenge anyone who thinks otherwise! For, you see, I would have not unpacked the car either, or cleaned, or any of the other things... but what makes us different, and me clearly the top procrastinator is... I wouldn't have bothered to make the dress either. ;)
Are you going again? (And I hadn't seen 'Keep calm & carry yarn' - but I love it too!)
I can so totally relate to your predicament with the silly billy dress! As a mother of two very young babes (2 and 10 months), I too suffer from moments of extreme frustration when I am forced to attend to banal domestic duties when I'd so much rather be whizzing up a dolly, or bag or patch skirt!
ReplyDeleteThose photos, together with the "I had to cut her out of it are fantastic Kate. While not a great sewing story, it's a great story!
ReplyDeleteI laughed aloud reading how you had to cut poor Pepper out of the dress - at least she only called it Silly Billy and not something worse!
ReplyDeletei love the dress and it seems i share many of your problem personality traits :-) x
ReplyDeleteYou are a silly billy! I know how it feels to do something on the spur of the moment - only to be disappointed and then feel cross about what I SHOULD have been doing instead of wasting precious time. Fortunately, or perhaps sadly, with advancing age comes less spontaneity, but maybe also less moments of pure brilliance. I don't know which I prefer actually! Have to ponder on this one!
ReplyDeleteThat's what my dresses will surely look like once I move on from cushion covers..
ReplyDeleteOh my - I have been down THAT road! When my kids were little I used to lie them on the fabric and cut around them ... thank goodness for stretch fabric or I too would have been cutting my share of kids out of their impatiently sewn clothes!
ReplyDeleteOh my heck! I am still laughing. I thought I was the only one with what I call Craft ADHD...but I am glad to read above that there are many, many more of you out there besides me that finds manic crafting preferable to that long list of chores and other duties. ;-)
ReplyDeletecan't speak....Pissing myself laughing!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL!
ReplyDeleteTo err is human. To do so with such breathtaking grace and humour is divine!
I think I may have a few of those dresses hidden in the back of a drawer somewhere ;-)
And that Silly Billy dress looked so damn cute hanging on the hanger.... oh well. You make me laugh!
ReplyDeletexo
heheee, so very very cute! silly billy!!
ReplyDeleteThis post has me smiling! I just love the way she stands in that dress.
ReplyDeleteI totally love the Silly Billy Dress, I love everything about it! I'm just wondering what was going through your daughter's mind when you came at her with a pair of scissors to cut her out of it?
ReplyDeleteToo funny!!
Ha! Fantastic! and too funny. Good on you for 'giving it a whirl' though, completely impressive! Oh and I'm so relieved to hear of someone else who puts off all those other things when crafting just has to happen. Totally there.
ReplyDeletetotally hilarious...
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing...
. . . oh but it looked so perfect on the hanger!
ReplyDeleteYour Silly Billy dress looks familiar. It reminds me of so many projects that I've had to do---barring all else!--only to destroy them with my very zealotry. Thanks for posting this!
ReplyDeleteOh my, that silly billy dress made me laugh out loud!! I love the next one, the amended version, but it didn't give the guffaw this one did!
ReplyDeletetoo darn funny and Pepper is soo adorable!!!!! What a great name she chose :)
ReplyDeleteThere's only one thing you can say about that dress. Perfect for hexagon patchwork.
