After my month of crocheting pot holders last October, the natural progression was to have a go at hooking a tea cozy. The result was the Rosy Cozy Tea cozy. Although I found the pattern a bit tricky, I loved it and thought I had many, many crocheted tea cozies ahead of me.So I started to collect tea cozy patterns in my bookmarks, and I started to collect plain tea pots in op shops and garage sales.
When I got to five though I stopped, because the truth is I don't drink tea from a tea pot I just collected them so I could play dress ups with them.
But since then my crochet projects have taken a different direction and four of the tea pots have stayed nude on the side board staring at me waiting to be dressed.So the other day when I was at the garage sale of the woman who had crocheted these herself, I knew they had to come home with me, and not a moment to soon, as the nights are starting to get a bit chilly in these parts and those tea pots did not look happy.
But look how good they look now, all dressed up and ready for winter.
And one day, if the urge comes upon me to crochet another tea cozy, I'll just have to look around for another.

Got to love the ol' tea cozy. I scored one a few weeks back at an Oppy - it was in the shape of an owl and had its own googly eyes glued on. So very clever. I love the green, white and pink one with the pink flower on top. So cute. Hard to believe we'll be hit with winter soon with the glorious weekend we've just had.

ReplyDelete(And at the moment I am really in awe of anyone who can crochet. I did make another attempt this afternoon and I think I have figured it out again. One gal suggested that I hold my hook and yarn as if I was knitting until I get more comfortable with it.... and believe it or not, that helped me.)
I like making my tea in a pot and drinking it from a pretty cup. It helps me to slow down for a few minutes each day, even if the rest of the day is crazy hectic.
I love old tea pots too, even though I don't drink tea - love the cozy dress up session!

I have a bit of a tea cosy fetish too...and like you I don't often drink tea from a pot. The concept is just so lovely. Keeping your tea cosy...I love it! :)
ReplyDeleteThe tea cosies are gorgeous, I've collected a few, and don't drink tea! My daughter used to think they were beanies and sometimes wears them. The teapots do look lovely all dressed up!

Gorgeous! You have convinced me I need a tea cozy. I'm jealous of those tea pots - I've been keeping an eye out for a plain simple tea pot for ages....and havn't found one. Maybe next week :-)

Oh Kate you have to enter that in the Worlds Best Tea Cozy Competition I told you about!! I am working on getting the idea of a Cassowary out of my head and onto the needles, found some great wool! I have also found some patterns from the late 30's so may give one of those a go as well? See how I am going for time? Have done my entry for the Alice Springs Beanie Festival...will post about it during the week :-)

I love those cosies! There is something so proper about a teapot cosy don't you think? I sometimes indulge in a teapot cuppa but generally am so keen to get guzzling tea, that aside from using a drip, the 'teabag dunked in mug' is the quickest solution. Although my mum positively insists on having tea from the teapot (warmed of course) EVERY time and my god that woman can drink tea!!!! Going to check out that pattern as I absolutely MUST have a go at making that cosy!

ReplyDeleteI love teapots and handmade teacozies. I'm hanging out for just the right teapot first as I'm sure they must vary in size. I think it's lovely when friends serve tea from the pot instead of the tea bag dunking in the cup sort of thing. I'm thinking red with white polkadots.

Must be something to do with their cute little rotund bodies - it's kind of comforting. BUT my teapots are nude too! Eeek! Must learn to make a cosie (or five). Let me know if you find a SUPER easy pattern - crochet and I are not getting along at the moment.

Glad to see that your little teapots are now warm on there shelf. Pour yoursef a cuppa from oe of them one day - you will be surprised just how warm the water stays.

ReplyDeleteI don't even have one tea pot! And the old coffee pot I have is used as a vase. If I did have a teapot I would be crocheting some clothes for them. I may be recruited to make them anyway, as a family friend hosts a tea party to raise money for cancer each year, and is thinking of having tea appropriate things to raffle off. Tea cosies would be perfect. :)
