What if...

What if I am as impatient with my kids as I feel today?
What if it was all really about the styling and the fixing?
What if I am antisocial and don't feel like making new friends?
What if something bad happens back home?
What if I have no personal space?
What if we only have access to crappy food?
What if they don't make friends?
What if something runs out of batteries and we can't charge them?
What if they just fight all the time?
What if I have forgotten how to slow down and unplan?
What if I forget something important?
What if someone gets sick or hurt?
What if something important gets lost or stolen?
What if we are being too ambitious?
What if I have packed the wrong things?
What if....how long have you got??

ps. I am excited too. Very excited. I just want to acknowledge and record some of the day before feelings. Eeeeeeep, one more sleep.

See you on the road. x

  5. the worst what if would be what if you were just too scared to follow your dream of an awesome caravan adventure where you get to meet some of the bestest people ever and go to some of the most spectacular places ever!

  9. It's going to be amazing Kate. Likely to be filled with "what if" about turning right instead of left, spending an extra night, departing early etc. BUT I think there are plenty of "what ifs" at home too.

Go well, go safe, go strong.

    Love

  10. One or all of those things could happen...and even then, you will be just fine. There will be challenging days, hard times, squabbles and mayhem; but there will also be wonder, magic and little miracles along the way. Breathe deep and roll on sweet mama!

I wish you the moon and stars, have the time of your life!

Get out of your comfort zone and great things can happen! Can't wait to read all about it, so please keep blogging!

  13. I understand the anxiety, I am like this whenever I have to go.
    Somebody taught me:
    - do not project
    - one day at a time
it works! All the best for your big, big adventure.

  14. Oh my goodness Kate - what if you didn't have a blog to use as your free therapy. Are you really a worrier or just ensuring you've ticked all the boxes?? I think you should consider "what if you never want to stop travelling" as a much bigger danger!! I know my guys in new places love it so much!! You'll do so well, it's your time to shine & your family will embrace it. You're not heading to the south pole, you're still in an English speaking country with a huge adventure - i can assure you we've had wallets stolen, dead mobile phone batteries & a sick child in worse places. Have a ball, love Posie

  20. Just last night I read this quote about travelling:

"It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things - air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky - all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it." Cesare Pavese (used as a preface to The Comfort of Strangers by Ian McEwan)

Even if all of your what if's happen, you'll be fine. And when it's all over you'll forget about the small inconveniences and remember the big stuff. So excited for you!

  32. Dear Kate, Bren and girls.....Have a fabulous time xx

I just handed over a favourite book of ours to a new Day Care Mum who has been getting all my stash. It has a c/d with it and we used to listen to it in the car all the time. Its hard to let this one go because its like letting go a bit of a dream. The book is Are We There Yet by Alison Lester....I'm sure you know it and at the moment it is reminding me of you guys. :-) Take care and have lots of fun!

  39. I'm so excited for you all. One thing about being in the great outdoors .. the worries and the 'what ifs' are mostly left behind. Have a wonderful trip, your children will be talking about this forever .. and remember, caravans jiggle so stow things tightly!

  41. Wow, that is so exciting. Lots of us are 'what if-ers'. It's normal and ok to have all those second thoughts. Whatever happens, just remember you have blog followers far and wide, and if you do need any help on your travels, it's likely one of us will not be too far away. Just holler!

  42. All those things probably will happen. But you know they will as you have already thought about it. But they would have happened if you were in a caravan or not in one.

  51. I reckon it will take a few weeks to get a rhythm going and the feeling of abandonment that is needed to really enjoy such an adventure

There will be days when all will feel like heading home and a bit of whining (maybe).

If you are heading North then it can only get warmer.

    Soooo exciting.

  53. What if you have a fabulous time?

Enjoy your time away together - it'll sure be an adventure and if caravaning is anything like camping, you'll enjoy the best sleep ever (well at least we did when we went camping for 3 months - living out of the back of our car)!

Can't wait to read about your adventures - the good, the bad and the ugly.

  59. Being a big what ifever I understand all of it.
SOmetimes I find it helpful to think of the worst possible thing that could happen and try to figure out what I would do if it happened.
Like if you weren't coping at all with it, and it was going badly you could always come home.
which isn't the worst thing. see there is always an answer.
But I know you won't do that, because I know you can cope.
hope you're having all sorts of awesomeness out there xoxo
PS What if I miss you too much????
