My creative space.

Because you asked Kirst, my hot tip for staying creative is to create.

I am never so creative as when I am making. That's when I hatch my best crafty plans.

It's like using the making tools, unlocks the creative part of my brain.

When I am lost for inspiration and don't know what to make next, I know my best trick is just to get on with it. Use those tools. Get my sewing machine out and mend something, knit a few rows, pull out an old unfinished project and give it new life, draw an idea for a pattern, or rearrange my wool stash into rainbow order.

And as if by magic the creative comes. It's like the more I create - the more I create. It's infectious.

And my creative space this week is the pile above. It's like my creative to-do list. Another crochet collar dress plan, a carving plan, a dying plan and some baby making plans (ha! not mine!).

But before I get on with any of those crafty plans I am making myself finish the Feather and Fan cardi.

To be honest I am sooooooooooo over this project. I started it to justify the purchase of a book but the pattern itself is doing my head in. It's tedious. The numbers never add up and I have my doubts it will even fit Miss Jazzy in the end.

But I am loving the Bendigo Tasman Blue.

And I only have a few more rows to knit until cast off.

Then there's only the blocking and stitching back together until I can tick it off my list and move on. I am SO looking forward to that part.

So that's me and my creative space.
What's going on in yours?
Are you hatching lots of crafty plans or are you being good and finishing off what you started?

Keep cozy.

xx

  1. Kate the feather and fan cardi looks great so far. If it doesnt fit Miss Jazzy you can always keep it for Miss Pepper. I am currently knitting some more nephew sweaters, with another new nephew due in 4 weeks, and possibly 2 more in December my hands are busy doing the baby knits, but I am in the mood to knit socks and some things for me. Hope your keeping warm in Daylesford. Miss Isabelle is camping in Ballarat tonight so I am hoping she is snuggly warm and not too cold!

  2. What a great colour that blue is Kate. I do hate those projects that lose their sparkle. I'm sure it will be beautiful at the end though :-)

  3. Great colour blue..I could get lost in it! I absolutely agree with you on the creative thing...whenever I fiddle with my fabric or wool stash I get more ideas. I never used to finish projects but now I have a private rule which I mainly keep, to finish one thing before starting another. When I finish something I have a little clean up too, which kind of gives me a clean organised corner to start a new project..a bit like a new page.

  5. I also find that when my creativity is stuck, that if I just start on any thing, be it mending or finishing something, it's like a door to my creativity is unlocked and I start seeing the potential everywhere.

  6. Yeah! Getting on with it IS a very good tip! Also I love that blue. It's on the shortlist for my front-door repaint!

  7. I'm finishing. In fact, I am finishing for the rest of the year. I have too many half made things taking up too much space in my craft room so I have declared that I am not allowed to start anything new until Christmas (ie: Christmas gifts). Funnily enough, coming back to projects that have been sitting there for 10 years is just like starting a new project anyway. xox

  8. My favourite sentence in this post is: " It's like the more I create - the more I create." That's exactly how I feel but I didn't have the words. Sometimes with all the creating business going bananas in my head I feel a touch overwhelmed. If I write it down I feel better because then it seems manageable. Yay for pretty notebooks so I can jot down crafty ideas and projects.

  10. That blue is so beautiful! Creativity is a fickle thing. Some fellow art teachers have said that after investing all their creative ideas in students all day they find it very hard to make their own work. Sometimes after working on something all day, a day off can help too I guess. Can't get over how lovely this colour is, your work is lovely!

  12. Ain't it the truth! I remember when I had an exhibition coming up and I had nothing! I was desperate and did not even know where to start. So even though I am a glass blower, I just started mucking around painting cardboard and making diaramas and presto!

  13. I just love this colour! So vibrant. Gorgeous pics too, and I love your tip - it's so true. I always get my best ideas when I'm embroiled in something else! :) Kx

  14. That colour looks great. I really have to make a trip over to Bendigo soon and hit BWM.
I am knitting socks at the moment. I'm about to turn the heal.
The fester and fan will block and grow considerably when done. I hope that it fits her.

  15. I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is needed to get set up? I'm assuming
having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny?
I'm not very internet savvy so I'm not 100% positive. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Thanks so much for stopping by...

I do read every single comment you leave and appreciate it very much, but I should let you know that I can be a wee bit on the useless side when replying to comments, that's just me, everyday life sometimes gets in the way....so I'll apologise now, just in case.
