I declared yesterday a housewife day. All day long I cooked and cleaned and washed and baked and shopped. That meant that today after bush kinder I had a chance to play with my new, but very late, birthday present macro lens.What a great way to show you what I've been making.

And washing and combing Miss Pepper's hair. It is long! Past her bum-bum now. I'm not cutting it though. No way! She's my last baby and I'm hanging on to that new born hair for as long as I can.

The very first photo I took with my new macro lens once I got it home was of these #$%^&ers. I guess they have become immune to that essential oil mix spray I've been swearing by for months now. Bum!!

ReplyDeleteI have been looking longingly at the sewing machine all week, in a bad head space, trying to hold off a stress/anxiety attack about moving overseas so soon, and so much to do. And now the ceiling in our garage has collapsed, aahhhhh.

ReplyDeleteI laughed at the critter photo....I've just been doing the same thing :-) I have a mixture in a spray bottle of tea tree, neem and ANISEED....they hate the aniseed, you can see them running away from it. so we still get the adults from school but no more babies, I just mix the essential oil mix with water in the spray bottle and spray everyday and comb every second just with water over the sink full of hot water. My hairdresser friend also tells me they hate hairspray so just spray the girls hair before they leave the house. LOVE the new camera lens....might just have to put one on my wish list for my birthday, always been keen on blurring the background :-)

Oh, I am having a housewife day today. The house is grungy and the produce from the market needs to be turned into fabulous meals for the rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to have a Macro lens, it's on my wish list for certain. Sorry about the bugs. I have found recently that our ant problem is back. The cinnamon oil has lost it's efficacy I guess.
I also wanted to say how much I liked your last post. Totally agree. Life is for living NOW. So glad to hear the progress of your dad too.
Cool new lens! I need a whole new camera cause mine was stolen when we went overseas. But with the wedding I can't really afford one straight away so I am borrowing my friends. Hopefully he doesn't ask for it back anytime soon cause I am loving it!!!
ReplyDeleteI am wanting a macro lens but have decided on the much cheaper filter option that apprently can be used like a macro lens.... i have read about it in a photography book...etc... anyway. I just got a new cover for my camera so i cantake it on my very soon holiday and not bring the zoom lens etc. I am excited to tkae photos in a city!

The thing I love most about your macro lens is the upcloseness of the fabric weave. It's like having good linen when you only paid for cotton.
ReplyDeleteI am sitting having lunch at my voluntary job and waiting for someone to join me. When I saw your knitting I started a new dishcloth, the organic makings of which, and bamboo needles, I just happened to have in my basket.
Love the lens...you can keep the nits....ewwww!! Are you using tea tree and oil mix. It seems to be working here.

Oh..if anyone tells you nits can't survive off hair, they are lying. We captured one and put it under a microscope and it lasted 13 hours!!

loooove the macro lens - I really want one too. There's nothing nicer to photograph with a lens like that than yarn. As for the nits - we found cheap conditioner to work well - I slathered the best part of a bottle of conditioner onto Abby's hair and made sure every strand and scalp was coated really well, the we put a shower cap on and left for the day - this smothered the nits (we found the method on the Harvard School of Public Health site) and then in the evening we combed it out with the nit comb, washed it, and then blow dried her hair on the hot setting. Works a treat.

I have to let you know how my home treatment has SAVED my life! First sign of nits. For long hair half a bottle of thick conditioner add 4 (yes 4) teaspoons 100% tea tree oil 1 teaspoom eucalyptus and 1 of lavender (all pure). Brush hair. Comb hair. Put conditioner mix throughly through whole hair. Leave 30 min minimum. Comb and nit comb through. Then this is important. Wrap hair in shower cap of similar and leave overnight. Wash in morning. ALL GONE. ALL EGGS crittters the lot! Saves me hours... no days/weeks. Good Luck

ReplyDeleteHi Kate, I'm a hairdresser and knew what those ugly things were the moment i set eyes on them...please only use the PPS "Fried Lice"...it was developed by the government then patent sold to the hairdressing company...it is the ONLY thing that is working right now..anything natural will only piss them off (I've seen them still moving straight after a pyretherem based treatment). The next thing you have to do is re-treat in seven days to get all the non dead eggs gone straight after they hatch and before they breed again. Vinegar is great with a knit comb to get the glue off the eggs.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the lecture but i feel really strongly about getting rid of them in the right way...hairspray and condition don't have any effect no matter what anyone says..they love any hair clean or dirty..it doesn't matter as long as they can get on there they are happy.
Good luck and i hope you can get rid of them without chopping off the curls

love your work kate. love your thoughts too. you are so right, do not ever never wait until something bad happens to live life to the fullest. i had a life threatening accident 12 years ago. i was very lucky to survive and spent three months in hospital. life has never looked the same since that day.

so....seize the day, don't feel guilty, feel glad and enjoy very second with eyes, mind and heart open and ready to soak it all in. phew. deep breath.
