I'm a little teapot!

After my month of crocheting pot holders last October, the natural progression was to have a go at hooking a tea cozy. The result was the Rosy Cozy Tea cozy. Although I found the pattern a bit tricky, I loved it and thought I had many, many crocheted tea cozies ahead of me.

So I started to collect tea cozy patterns in my bookmarks, and I started to collect plain tea pots in op shops and garage sales.

When I got to five though I stopped, because the truth is I don't drink tea from a tea pot I just collected them so I could play dress ups with them.

But since then my crochet projects have taken a different direction and four of the tea pots have stayed nude on the side board staring at me waiting to be dressed.

So the other day when I was at the garage sale of the woman who had crocheted these herself, I knew they had to come home with me, and not a moment to soon, as the nights are starting to get a bit chilly in these parts and those tea pots did not look happy.

But look how good they look now, all dressed up and ready for winter.

And one day, if the urge comes upon me to crochet another tea cozy, I'll just have to look around for another.

I hope you are having a great weekend.

Rosy cozy & milk jug covers.

On Friday I crocheted a Rosy Cosy tea cozy.

To be honest I found it quite challenging. The pattern is easy enough to follow, but made up of many stitches and stitch sequences that I had never attempted before; like decreasing over 6 stitches and single crocheting backwards (crabbing) and the fptb (front post treble).

I found myself pulling it apart over and over and at times asking my very talkative and inquisitive children to only talk if they absolutely had something urgent to say.

I am really happy with the end result, but it has made me question the level of crochet I thought I was capable of.

After a bit of a tidy up the other day I found my copy of Vintage Crochet by Susan Cropper.

After seeing so many milk jug covers in blog land like those stunning ones Melanie M* has been crocheting, I knew it was only a matter of time before I made a few myself. And let me tell you they are as lovely to work as they are to look at.

Its been a great opportunity to sort through the jars of buttons I've collected just in case.

And for my helpers to make stacks and patterns of their own.

My next project is to make some bunting to decorate our farm shed shop. I had thought to crochet the little flags, but realistically, I think fabric might wear better.

The bunting above has been hanging outside for over a year and the grape vine has started to use it as a trellis.

I hope you are having a lovely Sunday where ever you are.

A month of pot holders.

I think I have the pot holder to thank for making Blogtoberfest so enjoyable and doable.

These quick, little crochet projects made sure I always had something new to show and talk about. A few birthdays thrown into the mix helped too.

Now Blogtober is officially over I thought I might wrap up the whole pot holder project. I still have a few commissions to make and a swap or two but other than that all there is left is to hang them on the wall and to move on.

Introducing the Pretty Petals Potholder in blue.

According to Wikipedia: A pot-holder is a piece of textile used to hold hot kitchen equipment, like pots and pans. Made mostly of polyester and/or cotton.

My pot holders are more about form than function. I made each of them with a display in mind and still use tea towels to get things out of the oven and raffia mats to rest hot dishes on.

Introducing The Purple Rose Pot Holder. This one is meant to be made in multiples and then sewn together to make a rug but when I came across the pattern I liked it so much and had to make one.

I use cotton or cotton blends to make my pot holders.

The Poinsettia Pot Holder.

I love how each of these pot holders has taught me a new lesson in crochet.

Patty's Flower Pot Holder.

This is one of the two pot holders that I crocheted a back for and I love its weight and authenticity.

The Packer Pot Holders.

The Purple Poppy Pot Holder.

I adapted a lot of the patterns but this is one of two that I made up.

The Apple Pot Holder.

When I first finished this one I intended to pull it apart because the red seemed too big but after reading all your generous and kind comments there was no way I could do that. I've even grown quite fond of the old apple lately.

The Ruffled Pot Holder.

And the one that started it all, The Vintage Rose Pot Holder.

I have loved Blogtoberfest. I loved blogging everyday, I loved discovering and reading new blogs and learning more about those I read already. Thanks heaps Tinniegirl and Curlypops for the wonderful adventure.

I have no idea what will happen from now on with my blogging frequency but I was very interested and amused this morning when the tea pot above practically dived into my arms at the Daylesford Sunday Market. It looks a bit cold don't you think?

Crochet, magazines & buns oh my.

I thought I might give up the crochet habit when the weather warmed up but it doesn't look likely. A few rounds of a pot holder while supervising some late afternoon outdoor play-safe, portable and productive, it doesn't really get any better than that.

Have you checkout out this little magazine? You should its just gorgeous. Lots of crafty, environmental and sustainable ideas. And that could be me with our coloured carrots in my pocket. Thanks heaps Allison I love it.

And thanks Andi for this little book tied up with a ribbon. I am so close to leaving the pot holders and heading over to the tea cosies.

One final picture of the sticky buns the boys will be eating with their tea today. To ice or to leave plain that is the question.
