Have you ever written a guest blog post?

To be honest, I found it quite a challenge.

When I write on my own blog, I assume the people who are going to read it already know a bit about me. I'm talking about you. You know that I adore being a mother but that sometimes it drives me insane, you know that I would rather sew than do housework, you know that a lot of the time I am happy but that sometimes I struggle and that most of the time I make it up as I go along.

But Candace lives in another country. Her readers have never heard about Daylesford Organics or Foxs Lane. What ever I wrote in my guest blog post is all they know about me.

On one hand it really doesn't matter.

But on the other hand I want my blogutation to be truthful. I wanted to portray an honest picture of what motherhood means to me.

The mini tree dress and fancy undy bundies pictured are a present for a baby born a week ago. A baby I had no idea about because my phone had died and I didn't receive the text.

Thanks heaps Andi for leaving that comment and letting me know.

I have since put my sim card in Bren's ancient Nokia until my replacement iphone arrives.

The dress and bloomers were made from vintage sheets and I screen printed the tree back here, I used op shopped bias binding and button and crocheted ric rac.

If part of your weekend involves Mothers' Day, I hope it is fabulous.

We are postponing Mothers' Day until next month. In June it will be quieter here on the farm and I will be able to have a whole weekend dedicated to the celebration of me. Yay! I can hardly wait!

Tree dress & bloomers.

After a visit to the hospital this morning where I breathed in as much of that new baby smell as I possibly could and after all that boy baby crafting yesterday, this morning I came home and made some very girly stuff.

A tinsy winsy tree dress.

I printed the tree way back here.

I used vintage sheets, thrifted bias binding and button and I crocheted the ric rac.

And some tinsy winsy bloomers.

Miss Pepper is desperate to try the bloomers on, so I'm off to make her her own pair of fancy undy bundies, as she calls them.

My Creative Space.

I've sewn in the last label and I'm delivering frilly bloomers to the new Lark shop this morning.

My (our) creative space this week, the first week of the school holidays, is here at the girls' art and craft table. It's been awful, wet and windy weather outside, so this is where we are spending a lot of our time.

The making area is just off the main living area but still in the same room. Here the girls can express themselves and make a bit of a mess while they are at it.

There are lots of bits and pieces to inspire them to create. We seem to accumulate crafty equipment, bits of nature and odds and ends we come across because you never know when you'll need just that right bit. Sometimes it's that bit that inspires a whole new project.

And we have a big cupboard to store all their crafty bits and pieces in. Looks like that top shelf is in need of a tidy.

At times it does get sticky, covered in glitter or so covered in art work that you can't see the table or find what you are looking for, but it's a small price to pay for having a space that encourages making and creating.

Colour & Fun.

On the first day of the school holidays (yesterday doesn't count because we had family, friends and dentist appointments), we did painting,

we made rock star scrap books,

we did sticking,

we went for a walk in the mud and collected the eggs,

we played with the ducklings,

we baked some cupcakes,

and then because Mum was desperate to finish off a bit of sewing, we cut up some of her precious scraps.

Almost finished the bloomers to be delivered to the brand new Lark shop opening on Thursday.

How exciting!

All this on the first day and without getting out of our pyjamas.

What are we going to do tomorrow?

My Friday.

Isn't it funny how some days it takes all day to wash the breakfast dishes, when other days you can achieve so much? Maybe the fact that it was a gorgeous Spring day here in Daylesford today had something to do with it being one of the latter. Or maybe it was the panic of trying to get some things done before the school holidays start.

First up after dropping the girls at school was a garage sale at a local church. I came away with some lovely sheets and pillow cases, some old knitting and crochet pattern books and a bag full of bias binding, zips and knitting needles. I was so excited with my loot that I skipped down the hill to my car.

Three loads of washing went in and came out of the machine. I didn't abide by the off the line by 4 o'clock rule, so most of it is damp and still on the line to hopefully dry tomorrow. (Bren just told me there is rain predicted.)

A fair bit of time was spent with our new friends, twenty five 3 day old Khaki Cambell ducklings. They really are the cutest things ever.

I baked a batch of meringues to take to lunch tomorrow. They are going to be served with cream, ice cream and berries. Mmmmmmmmmm

A bit of sewing.

And an early dinner at A Perfect Drop wine bar in town. It was great that we delivered the beetroots this afternoon and were served them an hour later. It is also great that we can have a bit of a social life again with the girls now they are getting a bit older. It doesn't matter that we were home by 6.30.

My creative Space.

The last week of the school term has been an exciting one with Italian day, performances, costumes, projects and parties. Because of this my creative space this week seems pretty similar to last week's. I'm still cutting up vintage sheets, making bloomers, dresses, ruffles and playing around with shapes and sizes.

I am loving cutting up these beautiful old sheets but I am so aware of saving every scrap and utilising as much of the piece as possible as they seem to be harder and harder to find .

The automatic buttonhole on my machine is playing up so I have had to improvise and therefore the dresses aren't quite as floaty as when I started. Love that zipper foot!

My Creative Space.

While we were away at the beach last week my hands were busy crocheting bowls but my head was full of a dreamy, floaty, whimsical range of girls' clothes.

In the madness since we've been home I haven't had much of a chance to get further than the basic shape of a dress and these bloomers, but I'm dreaming about ruffles and frills and pockets and maybe even some crochet details here and there.

There's also lots of creativity going on behind the scenes of the next Daylesford Makers' Market.

The next market will be held on the 28th of November and will have a Handmade Christmas theme.
