The editor of my Mum's book had a baby the other day.My Mum bought some of the most divine, organic wool and after a bit of emailing back and forth we agreed on a pattern and I got click clacking.
The knitting part was quick.
And the pattern is super clever.How ace is a baby vest that doesn't have to go over the baby's head?
The night I cast off this vest I was at my knitting group and one of the older women asked me if I wanted to have any more babies myself. I replied that I desperately wanted a tiny baby of my own so I could knit little vests and hats and cardis. I didn't knit when any of my three babies were born you see. And do you know that none of the women looked at me funny. Even the one who is a maternal health care nurse. So I think that must be a good enough reason.Vest details here.

When I found out I was (accidentally) expecting our fourth (in 5 years) last year, knitting was the only thing that me going! - I knit like a mad woman for nine months. Knitting for babies has to be the best, most rewarding knitting in the world even if they only fit into them for a few weeks!

oh! get out of the city! I have the same pattern on my needles right at the moment with some hand dyed alpaca from made for aid. how scrumptious is that pattern! IT took me for EVER to find that pattern, its such a little man vest.

Ooh yes Kate another little baby for you would be just perfect, maybe a boy just like Farmer Bren! The little pebble is oh so cute too, must put that one on my "to do" list - it would be perfect for Kylie too I think. I must finish off her pressies and I think the baby Alex is coming home this week too. How amazing with all the money raised for the flood victims too!

ReplyDeleteNow wouldn't that be lovely!!! I would love a little baby to knit for and be all clucky over....don't think I could redo the 5,6,7, year old thing tho ;-) I'm knitting baby stuff as well at the moment, it is so satisfying isn't it. Just have to find a baby to be my pattern tester!

Clever pattern - anything that bypasses the head is a welcome baby garment. I have judders thinking back to some of those fiddly baby tops that just got STUCK! x
ReplyDeleteJust this week I said the words 'lets have #3', but I don't think it will happen... Lucky I already have two little ones to knit for, the two reasons I learnt to knit in the first place :)

ReplyDeleteperfect little Pebble. I know that if I could I would just keep having babies, so have stopped at two as that is what the man was happy with and I can live with that. But knitting for your own bubbas is incredibly satisfying.

ReplyDeleteIt's funny, I thought I would spend the whole pregnancy knitting sweet little baby things, but I've actually knitted mostly for myself - out of fear that I won't have the time or the concentration to make anything complicated for a long time. Since I've reached the third trimester, though, I can't stop knitting for the baby. I have grand plans to use handknitted soakers with cloth nappies, and I have so many more to make before I'll have enough just for the first few months (after several attempts turned out huge - toddler size!). And all I want to make is tiny little cardigans. At least the soakers are quick, and I think I've found a way to rewrite the pattern to make them even quicker.
Our plan is that this will be our only baby, and I can't believe I haven't spent the past six months making baby clothes. Fingers crossed I'll still have the time and inclination to knit once the baby's here ...

*hugs* It sounds like a perfectly good reason to have another baby, specially after you spent so much time trying to convince yourself that three were enough.
ReplyDeleteI think I understand how you may feel as even now while pregnant with the second I'm trying to figure out if I can justify having a third, but I already know that I want one and it will be hard to be "sensible" and give up the dream of three kids.
The vest is beauitful Kate, and such a neat idea that it buttons down the side.

ReplyDeleteoh my how i lovee that vest! My littlest and last wee bubba has hit the 3month stage and every day i cherish his newness, his wobbly head and sudden sunshine beam. They grow sooo fast!
